I've had some time off lately, so I decided to try making a "training Tutorial" of sorts. This one is done in flash using screen shots from the game. It's NOT complete, and a bit rough around the edges, but you can get the general idea of where I was going with it. I have maybe about 3 hours in this one now, and it is still under 1 meg in file size, finished, I'd say it would be just a bit over 1 meg.
Take a look and let me know what you think. Is this something worth doing? I know my audio isn't this best, and I have a bit of an accent, so there is no need to comment on those :D It does need some "cleaning up", but hey Check it out! (http://webpages.charter.net/maddogjoe/tutorial_test.htm)

looks good so far IMO. :aok
NOT

That's pretty cool. Technology is great! :)
-
Cool idea. Lots of potential with that format.

:aok that's awesome! I wish I had something like that when I started. :salute

Very impressive and very beneficial to new players.
Excellent!

Great idea, and an impressive beginning!

That is great! :aok
I hope this idea really takes off, it would help AH alot.

Your off to a very good start. Actually the voice seemed fine to me, bit of an accent, but certainly pleasant and easy to comprehend.
Next projects could be
A how to fly with a mouse? (What makes it go up or down?)
B How do I make it go? (sitting on the runway, engine on, but it won't move)
C Setting up views (I keep losing sight of the enemy, then he kills me)
D Basic tactics (Immelman, split S, rolling in the vertical to change direction, etc)
Good Stuff Fugitive, keep it up please.
In fact can you clone yourself 3 times so you can work on this 24/7?

Well being laid off at the moment I should be able to get a few done. The only real problem I see is first I have to learn these things like "how to make it go" and such before I can figure out how to make a tutorial for it! :huh
Having a list from a trainer does help in I'm sure those are the first things they run into with a new guy. If I could get some "scripts" I could edit to match the picture I put together would help a lot. Any writers out there? :)
I'll keep working on them as long as I have time to kill.

That is very impressive! :aok

Very nice :aok :rock :salute

Great Idea I think it will be very helpful to alot of people :aok :salute
-
good idea :aok
-
Looks good only comment I have is try to design for a smaller screen size resolution. I am running 1024 x 768 and had to scroll around the page to see everything. :salute
-
Hmmm, The Fugitive, what kind of script do you need? A joke script? A useful script? I would be happy to try to write a script for you, as I too have plenty of time with finals coming up.
-
Most excelent idea indeed! Should definitely help out new players, though I'll have to agree with caddie, I also had to scroll around to see everything.
-
I like it Fugitive and second Ghosth's list but would add the barrel roll to his list of BFM. As a three dimensional maneuver it seems to be one of those things newbies have a particularly hard time visualizing. Not being super computer literate, is there a way you can switch back and forth in your tutorial between a cockpit view and diagram? That way you could show what it's supposed to look like from an exterior view to what it actually looks like from the cockpit.

As I tell my wife "Anything is possible, how much time and money do you want to throw at it?" :D
Just off the top of my head, I bet I could do a split screen type thing. It might be tough working out the timings, but ....hmmmmm... I'll have to look into it. You did a "movie" about the barrel roll didn't you? that might be helpful to work with.
-
Very well presented. I'd love to see that linked to the AHII splash page under "training" Heck, might even be worth using it as a "key" to unlock AHII for thr 1st time player.
Well done :salute

very cool sir great work. :aok :salute

Man, a split screen would be great. We can easily generate an AH film of specific maneuvers to use. Too bad you can't extend trails beyond what AH does. Ideally, you should be able to look at the maneuver three dimensionally with the complete maneuver outlined.
