Always a good one...... But old as heck!

Yeah Bud, ummmm, no thank you!

BUT...

If you havent triied Bud Light Lime yet, you might actually be surprised by it's taste.  I've heard both men and women say it's better then Corona.  I'm not ready to say that yet though.

Real Budweiser from the Czech Republic is alright. Your abomination of it is awful.  :P

Our mass-produced, full of artificial nasties crap beer is better than anything American I've tasted.

The Germans slaughter both of us, though. They know how to make proper beer.

Funny though... Budeweiser is the number one beer in sales in the US. I prefer the Corona to the Bud Lime though.... but Carona is under the Bud umbrella too.

BTW saw one of the new Bud commercials that will come out soon... it is realy cool. Can't post it though.. still under wraps. Let's just say stand up then sit down  lol....

Best beer?    Tie - Steinlager (NZ) or Tyskie (Poland) anything else is 2nd.   I love Guinness too but those two are tops for me.

Theres a lot of great beer in the states...its just mostly from micro brews.  There's a lot of great stuff from smaller companies coming out of the Pacific northwest. The mass produced stuff is disgusting.

Me too...a friend told me Bud uses rice in the brewing process and that may cause the problem.  I think my body still rejects it because the first time I ever got smashed was on Bud.

No I have seen it in Florida... pretty sure if its beer its somewhere else. Ft Myers has a beer store with every beer from everywhere... even the Philippines. San Miguel :) Its world famous for a reason!  :aok So my wife says anyway. I have been on a Sam Adams kick for years now (Boston Lager) but I only drink beer with red meat and preferably ribs.

Oh and the Bud commercial is old.

I agree.   I drink what I like, I rarely buy US beer, but if it's offered, I drink it gladly.   Because it is then about friends, not the suds.

What, a beer is obscure if you haven't heard of it?

Steinlager is one of the biggest beers to come out of NZ. Tyskie is ok too but I think there are better Polish beers, but if I can buy it in a regular alcohol store in Australia, it's not obscure.

Erdinger is the king of beers. They make an amazing beer for every occasion.

I'm quite fond of Hoegaarden at the moment too.... the coriander and orange zest really give it an individual character.

Got to give a plug for Anchor Steam.  The guy who resurrected it just plain loves beer and beer done right.  I know most of you couldn't stand to be in SF, but if you ever visit...be sure to reserve a place for the Anchor Steam Brewery tour.  Need to call about a month in advance.

Beer is about friends and good times (or just a good meal).  What better than to have some of your friends' beer, or something made locally at your next party or get-together?  To say that beer snobs just like something nobody has heard of is ridiculous.  Why cook a chicken, when you could just have chicken nuggets?  Why make a hamburger, or grill some ribs, when the Whopper or McRib sandwich is so much more common?

I love beer (just ask my wife :D).  I wish I had the time right now in my life to make some of my own.

Title: Re: Budweiser does it again

It's a cloudy wheat beer. They do vary greatly in taste but generally they have a very thick and full-flavoured, almost creamy taste. Sometimes they can be quite 'floral' too and have a definite hint of citrus.

If I was going to generalise I would say it was somewhere between a pilsner and an ale. Sharp, full flavoured and refreshing but a little 'thicker' and creamier than you regular beers.

If you want to try something new I very much recommend it.

In fact, I recommend that you try any beer you can get your hands on. I just bought a keg of Köstritzer Schwarzbier lastnight and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I had never heard of it, never seen it before and just thought I'd give it a bash.

I only wanted a couple of pints for a Sunday night but I ended up having a few more than that, it was so bloody magnificent.

Black as night and a nice and subtle roasted peanut flavour mixed in with that wall of pure dark heaven.

Golly-geenit, now I need to have a glass.  :furious

Kostritzer definitely goes on what I call my 'black list' of murderously good schwarzen (blacks).

I actually like Budweiser, its the only beer I drink when I go out. Can't stand Corona or Guinness or any of the other popular ones. Plus "Bud" is the easiest to say when you're slithering up to the bar for #15.

Now if I'm at a friends house or drinking at home...

I love me some of that beer as well. I have been trying to keep at least 12 in the refrigerator each week but for some reason the little beer monster that lives in my alter ego keeps drinking the dang stuff each night.

Oh BTW I can buy Shiner Bock in Publix here in the Birmingham, AL area. I will never, ever let Buttweiser or any variant of it cross my lips again.

Don't write off Budweiser entirely... just don't drink the chite that is brewed in America... Czech Bud is the only way to go.

As a matter of fact, I'm yet to taste a Czech beer that isn't awesome. 'Kozel' is cheap, homeless beer there and it's fantastic compared to our local 'homeless man' crap.

I agree with that and I have had the Czech Budweiser when I was in Germany last year and it was pretty good. Still not as good as a local brew that I had there in Munich or even outside of Dusseldorf but overall not bad and 200 million percent better than the Buttweiser brewed over here in the states.

Budweiser and a lot of American breweries substitute the "good stuff" in beer with rice, to make it lighter, but keep alcohol content.

Can't stand it.  Their "new" ale is somewhat palatable.

What exactly is a "hefeweizen"?

And could you give me somewhat of a description on how it taste?

A true hefeweizen is a beer using at least 60% wheat in the grain bill, and uses a top fermenting (ale) yeast.

Due to the unfiltered process, and the high amount of proteins (from the wheat, which does not have it's own husk and therefore depends upon the barley enzymes for saccharification)  it is cloudy.

It is usually light(er) in color, has a low hop bitterness, and normally in the range of 4-6% ABV.

There are also no noticeable hop flavors or aroma, either.  There are often medicinal or clove flavors, produced by phenols from the yeast. Esters also produced by the yeast, can produce bubble gum, banana and vanilla flavor.

Most of the flavor in a hefeweizen comes from the yeast.

German  Hef = Yeast      Weiss = Wheat

Most Bavarians like theirs "mit hefe" (with yeast) and will roll the bottle on the table (or otherwise stir up the settled yeast) before pouring to get the last dregs out of the bottle.

lots of posh beers in this thread, but nz steinlager isnt one of them - its way overated and the hangovers fron it are nasty if you thrash it. drunk heaps of it when i was younger  becuse it was trendy... slick advertising and fancy german name etc. then i wised up like every other beer drinker i know and switched to a less exspensive cat piss

I'm too old to really care about what beer happens to be trendy...
And I've never been fond of heavy thick beers, or too much bitterness..
Beer, should taste like BEER.. So that leaves out that citrus stuff too..

When I'm at the races, and its close to 100 degrees.. The track is drying
out faster than they can water it.. Just finished 2nd in my 250GP heat race..
I've been so close to the #1 guy that I have a mouthfull of his roost/dust..
Thick, heavy, bitter, or fruity beers just won't cut it man...

When I pull into the tent, I need something that goes down smooth and
fast, with that sweet BURN in the back of my throat.. AGGGHHHHH!!!
Mmmm, what a sweet sensation!!! It'll make your eyes roll up in your head...

Nothing else gives me that like Budwieser!!!  Kokanee is good too tho...

3 or 4 Buds, and I'm ready for the Open Class GP... Thats when I get
that crazy Kamikazi look in my eyes, LOL!!!  Holeshot city man!!!

Good post, Von.

Rolling the bottle is good. If I'm back and forward from the fridge I try to give them a quarter turn (laying down) every now and then if I know I'm going to be drinking it soon.

After a gentle roll, pour 2/3s of the bottle into the glass (tilted as flat as possible) and the give the bottle a good swill (without shaking the beer up and frothing it). Pour half of that into the glass (again, tilted) and then swill the last part of the beer in the bottle around a little more vigorously.

Pour the last part of the beer in vertically.

If you do it right, all of the sediment mixes and goes into your beer and you get a perfect head on it every time. This is my perfected pouring technique and I think it is infallible at getting the best pour consistently.   :aok

Kokanee is good too tho...

Kokanee has a pretty full-bodied flavour compared to Bud and other generic piss.

It almost has a pale ale character to it, from memory. Not bad.

It is too expensive to justify it in Australia. Over $20 for a 6-pack.

No thanks...  I'd rather buy German at that price.

You'll be hard pressed to find an Australian who drinks Fosters.

The stuff we get here is very, very awful and it stinks.

Just opening a bottle will smell a whole room out and have people asking you "What the f - k are you drinking, man? :huh ".

Overseas brew will be different, of course, but the Aussie stuff is rubbish.

Honestly I've never had a mass-produced beer better than Sam Adams (the Boston Lager).  If the place I'm at has it, that's what I get.  I will say though that something goes wrong when its bottled, its still damn good, but its best when poured off draft.

I'm lucky to have a world class microbrewery 20 minutes (walking time, I don't drink and drive) from where I live.  http://www.lafayettebrewingco.com/ales.html .  My favorite beer of theirs is a seasonal that is now in season, their Smokehouse Porter.  I just wish they'd make it all year long.
