Title: Batman: The Dark Night
Post by: Mustaine on December 14, 2008, 01:26:27 AM
Summed up in a word: meh

Maybe it was all the hype that has been around it for all these months, but after just finishing finally watching it I don't think it was all that.

I honestly thought Batman Begins was better. More unexpected stunts, effects, and action. I don't know how to totally explain it but I can kind of compare it to the Matrix. The first was totally amazing, the second while some of the same "wow" effects and stuff was expected they built on it and actually did more cool stuff...

The Dark Night... yes the Joker was decently acted, the Harvey Dent character was not IMHO. Overall nothing just "wowed" me about this film. I guess it was nothing "new" with the exception of the whole cell phone sonar BS, which made this movie like total comic fiction. Maybe that's it, the first movie he was a regular man using some neat hi-tech toys, but mostly it was a man.

Am I the only one not impressed with The Dark Night?

Hmm... Joker decently acted?

Keep in mind that the Joker really sounds and acts like the main character in "A Knight's Tale."  I think Heath Ledger (Spelling?) did an absolutely outstanding job, look at everything he does, it's a completely different person.  Most actors actually have a bit of themselves show through when they do a part, this definitely isn't the case with this movie.  There are even rumors floating around that this movie was what really lead to Heath's death, some say you can get absorbed by the character your acting out...  Who knows if that's true, I'm no actor.

I thought it was very well done, I loved the suspense and mind games the most.  I just get a kick out of everything the Joker did, no matter how twisted it was.  But of course, everyone is different.

Makes me wonder if he was "absorbed" in his acting when he did BrokeBack Mountain. :D

Side note I just finished watching Hancock after Dark Night...

I really liked it! Quite original story, decently filmed, and I laughed out loud 2 or 3 times which is rare. I really liked the originality of the story in Hancock, and thought Will Smith was perfect for the role (I really think he is a talented actor).

Man I am really going opposite the "critics" and media, loving a dump of a movie in their minds, then being ho-hum on the golden boy movie. I have never trusted critics or reviews, and this just asserts it.

I had the same feeling with both Ironman and Dark Knight. Meh. The dark knight was about two hours to long. I thought it was going to end one time and was ready to go to bed when I checked "time left" and there was still another hour to go. I haven't got hancock yet but one that I just watched was step brothers. It made me laugh pretty good a few times.

Ledger did a great job with the joker. The guy who plays batman (don't even care to know his name) downright sucks. I cant stand how the guy talks.

Maybe because im a prog nerd who like prog stuff, but damn i was clapping when Dark Knight was over.  <<<<<<<<<<Went to midnight release with some friends.

Ledger did excellent and i loved when you thought it was over and it wasn't.  Best movie this year imo.

Total opposite for me. Hancock was a crappy B-movie with hollywood funding used as an excuse for a couple of good jokes... DK was great. Not without a few flaws but overall a kick bellybutton flick.

Christian Bale is the name, and he is probably one of the best actors out there today in my opinion. Have you seen any other movies he has made? As for the voice, they had it altered via computer to make him sound different than his character of Bruce Wayne.

Good movie all in all, not too sure how to compare it to the first one since I liked it too. As for movies put out this year... probably the top one so far.

Loved Dark Knight,  thought it was as good as Batman Begins,    Joker was a good role with a good actor,  But i would not have said he was the best actor ever.

I make a list of people who I know not to listen to movie recommendations from.  Mainly, they're people my wife knows at work saying stuff like "You have to see such and such, its sooo funny!"  You sir, have now made that list!  :P

TDK was a great movie I think, I've only seen a bootleg copy of it on my PC so far, so I'm looking forward to seeing it again.  I think Heath Ledger was great as the Joker, just his mannerisms where great, he really made you feel like this guy is criminally insane.  I also liked how there was a couple of times you thought it was over, but it wasn't.

Too bad Heath Ledger died though, because you just know that they would have brought him back in a future sequel, maybe not the next one, but a later one, and I'm sure it would have made for again a great movie.

Dark Knight was a fantastic show...the Blu Ray is a sight to behold on my LCD. Hedger just nailed it as the Joker...

Hancock was alot better than i was expecting, but was a very poor second to Hellboy 2 and Iron Man which I saw about the same time

I was disappointed with the cinematography of the fight scenes in Batman Begins.  Christian Bale played the lead in Equilibrium, which had great fight choreography with the "gun katta".  Liam Nieson played Qui Gon with the lightsabre scenes.  And how do they film the fight scenes?  Jerk the camera all around and cut shots every second.  It was ridiculous.  I still liked it, and the way Bale played it though.

I really enjoyed DK, and really liked the way Ledger played the Joker.  Hancock....it was ok.

Loved TDK, couldn't tell Ledger was the Joker. The thing that made Batman Begins so good was the "how he became Batman" aspect of it, The Joker made TDK.

Hancock was good... until you found out (spoiler) that girl was a superhero too. Then it became stupid and I hated it from then on out.

Joker was the act of Ledger's life, he did an amazing job. I thought it would be an abomination of what Jack did but I'd go so far as to say that Heath topped it.

Oh by far, Heaths Joker was alot more realistic, I mean you could actually believe that he could be real, Jacks Joker was more over the top.

I think Jack's Joker fit in great with the rest of the Burton rendition.

Oh definitely, that whole movie was more comic book style, while the new movies are darker & more realistic.

Whats impressive is that mr Bale looks like a world heavy weight wrestler in TDK, when i've seen him in films like 'The Machinist' where he looks like a starving peasant on the verge of collapse, or 'American Pyscho' where he looks like a slimy stock market broker. Truly a man dedicated to his work, no matter the cost to his body. One of the best actors working today.

Yeah for what he went through for the role in "The Machinist" is just amazing, the guy went from 183 pounds to 120 pounds, which they said was a record for any actor/actress to do for a role, and apparently he wanted to go down to 100 pounds, but they wouldn't let him due to fear for his health.  All he ate was a can of tuna & an apple everyday to lose the weight.  The guy is just a really good dedicated actor, he's good with accents too as his normal voice is British as he was raised in the UK, but you'd never know watching him use an American accent.

After all the hoopla about this movie, I rented it in BlueRay, picture was nice and sharp.
What got my attention was the way the guy talked while in the Batman costume, hated it.
Then the Joker made his entrance, I like the acting and plot played out for the Joker.
The worst part was the Batman Bike scenes, you can really tell how weak the scenes were and how it didn't sell you.

Yeah, some of it was a little Too far over the top, but overall i thought was really good and only paused it once to get a beer, and give back the borrowed beer.

I was really enjoying it when the screen went blank and I was asked to please take off my headphones because we were landing.  I didn't realise it was such a long movie.

I liked The Dark Knight, and I usually don't like the comic book movies enough to see them in the Theatre.  The first one With Bale was also very good, in my opinion the 2 are the best movies in the Comic book Genre.  I thought Heath Ledger did a good job, nothing amazing in my opinion, I was told by so many people that it was the best acting performance ever, in the history of mankind.  I just didnt think it was, although well done certainly no better than Bale's performance imo.

Christians Bales best movie was his first. He played the Brit kid in Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun".

I didn't dig the new Batman, didn't dig Bale playing him, and dont think Ledger deserves anything for his lispy Joker act. Had he not ate one bean to many, and croaked from it, I dont think he would even be considered. Had he licked his lips one more time I would have left. In fact I would have left early had I not payed full price to see the thing.

I finally broke down, no pun intended, and watched Brokeback Mountain. I didn't watch it for a long time cause I find the subject matter kinda disgusting. But I must say this director Ang Lee is a genius for the way he made this film and Ledger was incredible in it. Between the land itself and their lives, most of all Ledgers, there was nothing but desolation. He deserved an Oscar for that role.

The sad truth is I was super tired when I saw this and fell asleep midway through.  Woke up to my girl complaining about not enough passion..... Passion?  It's an adventure movie, what is that suppose to mean?

ugh
