I've been wondering what is the best screne resolution to use. I have 450 Mhz machine with 128 meg so ram and am Elsa ErazerX 32Mb video card. My conn isn't the greatest so I am wondering if going to 1024 would be a good thing or bad thing. What benefit would it give me.
Thanks

Syzygy... errmm I realize some players aren't very computer literate, but why not see for yourself?
I always recommend match your desktop resolution and colour depth to Aces. With a 450, you may want to stick with 16 bit colour.

Sorry the question made me seem illiterate, and considering that I built this computer from scratch, I'd respectfully suggest that I perhaps am computer literate but could use a good refresher course in english. I have tried numerous resolution and color settings and different refresh rates, and updated drivers, and reflashed bios, etc etc. What I am looking for is if a particular series of settings gives better success in dogfighting, i.e. can see bandits better, i.e. smoke doesn't effect frame rate as much, i.e. have others experineced problems with high res setting. I've seen some people post resoltions over 1280, at least with the next beta. Anwyay, just looking to draw on the experience of others.

i have a pretty good rig.. geforce3, 1.4ghz cpu..
when started playing at 1600x1200x32.. my framerates were fine, but i noticed the distance detail was just too hard to make out.. When a plane is at 4k at 1600x1200, all i see is a single pixel. at 1024x768, a plane at 4k is at least 3 pixels, sometimes more. This makes it much easier to get a read on the enemy. So I don't recommend anything over 1024x768 (which i use exclusively)

I used to run 1024 x 768 to see if I gained any extra FPS with my P3 550/384mb RAM/Voodoo 5500 64mb. Not much of a gain (2, 3 FPS?) and noticed the chat buffer looked odd...so, I went back to 1280 x 1024 and maybe I loose a frame or two, but everything is much smoother.
Then again, Ima buff dweeb and flying up high a lot :)
Im hoping to really squeeze some FPS when I upgrde to a Athlon 1.4 soon.

I have PIII 733, 32MB GeForce 2 MX, 192MB RAM. I use 1024x768 32 bit and get great FR and detail is just about optimal for my 17" monitor. Recommend this setting if you have similar spec video gear.

Try 300x200. :D
You will have to manually edit the video.cfg to get that resolution, but it does work.
