Title: main gunin
Post by: opposum on December 14, 2008, 06:56:11 PM
he he he

I love the new score system that tells you what you killed

I was bored today so I went back and was looking at how many planes I main gunned with tanks and in tour 103 I main gunned 68 planes, woot!

here is what I killed them with:
m8- 2
panzer- 3
Sherman- 49
t34/76- 13
tiger- 1

just a couple days ago I read something about when you shoot near a plane with a tank main gun, the round would jump and hit the plane if it was close. what is all this about? I have yet to notice my rounds jumping and hitting planes

when I shoot at jeeps flying by all I have to do is shoot near them with AP and the round jumps and hits the center of the jeep when it should of hit behind them but I have never noticed my rounds jumping when I shoot at a plane.

but anyway, for some reason I find myself bringing out a Sherman more often when a horde of planes come in on a v base, heh I find it more interesting for some reason :D

does anyone else have a bunch of main gun kills on planes?

<S> all

I still remember my first main gun kill was on a poorly flown jug I think, tripl5. :D

I love killing planes with the main gun much more than killing a plane with an Osti/M16/WW, but don't do it too often.  Seems a little more satisfying for some reason.

Once in the #2 view, if the plane's low & headed directly toward you it's a snap ~ just fire the little gun which is attached to the main gun (sorry, don't know the proper name of it) by using the B key. Once you start getting hit sprites, fire the main gun. :)

Usually the planes don't come in low & directly toward you though, probably to avoid just that. :)

But rounds jumping? Doesn't seem likely ~ usually any variance slightly above, below or two the side sends the round right on past the thing ~ I've seen those misses quite a bit more than I see the hits.

You cannt differ main gun kills from machinegun or maneuver kills with score pages, can you?  :huh

I believe it's call a co-axial machine gun or co-ax for short.

That would be the pintle gun.

Anybody ever use a smoke round in a Panzer to shoot at a plane with?  I wonder if it would damage the plane or just smoke up the cockpit.  Now THAT would be funny.    :lol

No. As stated that would be the co-axial gun. It amazes me just how few people know there is an extra MG in tanks.

The Pintle gun is on top of the turret. The co-ax gun is IN the turret and sighted using the main gun sights.

Yeah, I know. After playing about 2 years I discovered it.

Unfortunatley, Im not surprised at all.  I'm sure amongst the huge number of people that don't know about the co-axial mg are a majority of the same people who think tank destroyers would be useless in the game, but that's another subject.

And the second most important use of the coax MG (after shooting troops) is: To prevent killshooting yourself.
