3 weeks. you havnt learned much.

Rat and VF31 is a great squad and fun to fly with(18+ tho)

VF10 is a great bunch also. I believe there newer to. There squad nights are on sunday so look at them.

Only 3 weeks of flying! You will be better off flying with another squad first for numerous reasons: You don't know how to judge a potential member, rank alone is not enough, You don't know tactics, you probably don't know SA, and you need to get your name known for better or worse. You can really gain a ton of knowledge from flying with an entrenched squad.

might want to talk to the CO's, if your respectful and not clogging the VOX up with constant chatter they might be cool with it. If you want I think I might be adding another member later today and wouldn't mind adding another. I know I have 1 guy under 18 maybe two, both are respectful to others and pretty cool cats so i have no problem with it.

VF-10 is a new squad, but it's full of guys that have years of experience in Aces High.  Pretty darn good group of sticks if you want to learn team flying.

I still recommend joining a squad with a sturdy foundation. You can learn alot from squadies, and it's fun logging on, and having some squaddies to talk to/fly with. The problem with starting a squad when you're new is nobody knows your name, or your rep so people aren't willing to follow. Also, there's nobody to serve as a mentor to you, or any squadies that may join your squad. So really you're cheating you and any potential squadies out of what I really enjoy most...squad affiliation with a group of guys you enjoy being around and whom you can trust to fly with.

Yes all of this.. Heh but like I said, I want to fly in a Navy squad. Im good in the FM-2 if you look at my kills / deaths with it im decent, or at least I think I am + I think the FM-2 is awsome :aok, and Im 15, havent found a Navy squad on Rooks that would allow someone my age in, they are all 18 or 21+
Thats also why im trying to find some people to fly with, I figure if I fly with people and they like me they might want to start a squad or ask me to join theres  :aok

Everyone is pretty much on target here,

I'm probably close to 3 times your age, and been a WW2 history buff all my life.  Due to PC/internet problems I haven't flown much online, but I've been studying the game, been on this board asking questions, setting up equipment, flying some offline missions for several months now.

Finally have a decent set up and finally in the online game.

I wanted to start a squad, because I had very specific ideas about the type of squad I wanted to fly with.

Because I didn't have experience and no real standing in the community, I decided to join one instead.

In just a few hours my squaddies have taught me more than I learned reading, etc for months.

Mostly they taught me that I didn't know squat.

You will be much better prepared to start a squad later if you get some squad experience now, but perhaps you will find some experienced guys who will start a squad with you.

Don't limit yourself to Navy planes right now, more important to find some guys who will help you learn.

Trust me, you won't believe how complex this game can be.

Good luck,

Jim

Thanks, I do know a good bit about the game, I mean.. I dont know everything, there is a lot to learn heh, but yeah, like I just recently figured out how to dive bomb and Im getting good at that or at least thats what I think. :) Also I have used a lot of planes, and I just do best in FM-2 and im very use to it thats why I mainly fly that, its just, an awsome plane (and I think the carrier part of the game is fun)! :D And yes this game is awsome, and very complex  :salute

Seems a shame you can't hook up with a squad because of your age.

Young and new players are vital to the expansion of this game's player base, not to mention HTC's success.

I can see why you would feel you had to start one, to be in one.

Best of luck to ya!

1st,

Welcome to the game...

2nd,

Good luck in your efforts forming a squad...

3rd,

How about a reality check?

I couldnt find anything for you in tour 106 so this is literally your 1st tour. Are you even a paying member yet? Your not doing badly at all for a new player but 20%+ of your kills are PT's and LVT's. There is an awful lot to learn and a number of squads that would be willing to teach you. As mentioned above it will cut your learning curve down an awful lot. In the end if starting a squad is what you want to do you would be much better equipped to provide leadership and mentoring once you in turn have been mentored...

Just my two cents, but if VF-17 invites you to join them, I think its a mistake not to.
They have a lot to share. Besides, loyalty to a chess piece over a squad is stupid imo.
Good luck what ever path you choose.

You have a navy squad willing to give you a chance, seems like a heck of an opportunity. Don't know why it's so important for you to fly rooks.

I guess you're just determined.

Good luck and <S>

Just to chime in here on the squadron theme Pilot...I was in a squadron off and on for many years in other games and even in this one for a couple of years. Then I started my own when I saw a need to fill an old evolutionary role of putting VF-17 back into the game. In that 2-3 year time frame that I was the CO of VF-17, I can not tell you how many squadrons started and failed due to many different reasons. Heck VF-17 even started a long nose dive when I bailed on the game a couple of years ago and now thankfully someone has picked up the reigns and is willing to work hard to do what I had grown tired of doing.

Even if your idea is to have a younger group of guys within your squadron it will be more work than you can imagine. When I was CO of VF-17 I could count on playing no less than 10 hours a week minimum on top of my 50-60 hours a week at a job plus coming home and helping my wife around the house with the kids. I never logged on before 9/10pm and was off between 12/1am AFTER all my squadron members had logged off. IT WAS KILLER! We had more fun than I could imagine for those years.

HOWEVER two promotions at work, coaching youth sports and another kid (our 2nd we now have 3) killed AH for me. I lost the time and without the time and a 100% committed person to hand it off to the squadron tanked! Honestly if I ever come back I doubt it will be as a CO of anything other than the cartoon plane I am in at that time. I don't have time for it and don't know where the time would come from if I did come back to play regularly.

With that said IF you are dead set on starting a squadron then do it but prove us wrong when we say "you are going to fail". In proving us old timers wrong you better do the right thing and pick a great squadron to emulate and push the old traditions as far forward into the next group of flight simmers as possible. Otherwise take your time and pull down one of these offers to join and fly with someone for a while. Who knows you might have the itch to take over that squadron one day and they just might offer that up to you.

Personally I would like to see you help Tex01 (aka Whiteman) keep my old posting going strong. They need players that are willing to put it on the line several hours a week and move up within to be ready when the old guys at the top decide they have had enough. Best of luck to you in whatever you do.
