Title: CPU bomber gunners?
Post by: FYB on December 18, 2008, 06:59:57 PM
I went to search, obviously found a couple asking for the same thing.

Alot of my friends complain on the fact that when they hit f6 and someone who obviously saw a free shot, comes swooping in firing cannons and 50. cals. it hits the bomber and it goes boom. Why? Well most of the time not a single person wants to join your bomber to man the guns, so why not have CPU gunners?

Im sure people have good reasons why to and why not.

Thanks for posting!

See that.... you're already learning not to bomb whilst enemies are overhead!

Keep on bombing, you'll get better with timing it all out correctly.  Can't always rely on others, now at the same time, once you have been playing a while, you'll see squads alot and some may try and recruit you.  That makes asking for a gunner easier.

Personally... I don't ask for, don't let somebody gun for me.  I take pride in killing fighters from those buckets.   :salute

that solves part of my wish, but i mean having CPU bombers for a certain time period, like WEP. It doesnt last forever, definitely CPU gunners shouldnt either.

Thanks for posting LLogann.  :salute

I say no.  Between the formations, guns being tied together, and ability to have a gunner I feel HTC has done a decent job of balancing it out so that bombers at least have a chance to make it.  Also seems like a slippery slope to me I mean whats next then, cpu control for tail guns in attack planes like the 110, Il2, etc..?  With computer controlled defensive fire I could see people sitting in external view and bobbing and weaving to try and foil an attack whilst the guns just hammer away.

Above all this game is about PvP combat, the field ack is obviously a necessary evil but beyond that I wanna fight peeps, not coads.

You can have AI gunners when we get another "Evil Dead" sequel.

Hmmm...Otto.  Ackstars.  The past comes alive!

You probably don't know about Otto (a "CPU" gunner, and pretty good at it, too) or Ackstars (think B-17s with Otto flying low over airfields so the CPU gunners can kill anything trying to take off).  The best advice is to learn how to gun for yourself; never pass up an opportunity to get good at something.

Im guessing this means problem solved???

Well, tying guns is definitely not so good, and a formation with all CPU's; i know your right, no need to do anything.

Thank you all for posting and solving my dilemma.
Have a Merry Christmas!  :)

I would have to disagree with this wish.
Bombers have the guns "tied together" as mentioned before... but they also have the laser pointed gunsights, which, as a fighter/attck pilot for the most part, get's quite annoying. The bombers are already, at least imo, overmodded, why give 'em more?

Give it time though, you'll learn to find your gun right quick, and get those laser sights on someone. ;)

I would be for it if there were no bomber drones...  Errr, I don't think there should be bomber drones either way.  I still use them when I fly bombers but I don't do crap to make them warp all over when I'm under attack.

It might help the B-17s and B-24s that you kill with out a scratch despite having watch them empty their tailguns at you....

-1 for AI gunners.

Sorry, but I started out in Warbirds with "otto", frankly he sucked. He would routinely hit you at distances of 800 to 1.2k out. Not to mention burning up incredible amounts of ammo trying to do so.

If you want to fly bombers, either get good at gunning yourself, or bring a friend along.
Or fly at 10k and up, to stay clear of most fighters.

Believe it or not, what we have is better than that.

You can have AI gunners when we get another "Evil Dead" sequel AND Bruce Campbell wins Oscar for best actor for his work in it.

Fixed! :aok

it's call situational awareness my friend, got to always be aware of where you are in buffs, fighters, whatever, you don't have that and your dead no matter what you're in.

And I always gun for myself because the person wanting to gun usually isn't very skilled and usually talks to me on the country channel and talks too much so I'm better off without one. (learned that lesson after two bad experiences)

I say no to any sort of AI control of gun positions in player operated planes and vehicles.

I think this would be real cool. But it comes at a price. 50 perks a gunner, so if you have a b17, and you want all gunners, thats... 300 perks. And once you have a gunner, you can't go to his gunner position.

OR just let us have as many gunner/observers at once. that would make for some crazy missions :lol and great for training.

Now that i know why having CPU's suck and would completely ruin the game, i think theres no need to go farther into the idea of having them.

You seem to think that people saying NO, means think farther more into the plan of perking them because "NO" in the beginning means yes in the end.

Sorry, to burst yours and my bubble but they're right, having the CPU gunners just doesn't make it as fun as it should be, especially when you gun the plane yourself.

Thanks for thinking farther into the idea of people saying yes to this idea.

Stay out of D-500.  The guns are not laser accurate, but that's where they converge.  If you are near D-500, +/- a little, well you know the rest of the story.  You may notice that you get pinged a few times before the 'all miracle' guns open up on you.  That's just the gunner/pilot sighting you in a little, until you get closer.

I wish I had Otto in my single engine fighter.  Might be able to hit something.

Coogan you're one of the best buff gunner's I've seen. Many times i've made a pass on one of your drones, found out it was you, and left ya alone  :lol

Well thank you for the kind words B4Buster.  I give credit to the members of the 'Bloody 100th', and the time they've taken, teaching me any gunnery skills I may have.
The most fun I have, is when the pilot attacking me knows exactly where my shots will converge.  Then they stay just out of range.  I don't win those battles very often.
