If you chose to only use default skins in last night's FSO gv battle, you would have seen well-camouflaged M4's against bright orange Tigers, Panzers and SdK troop carriers.
HTC, please change their default skins.

I agree, big time.
I dont think there is ANYONE who will not agree that the desert tan of the Pzr IV and Tiger stick out something fierce as compared to the Firefly, T34/75, T34/85, etc.
Wether it is the German gray, or an SS green flectarn/splotch, or a brown... anything but the glowing tan. I was in a Bf109G-14 the entire FSO last night and everytime I went low to spot for our gv's, (icons aside) it was quite obvious where the Tigers and Pzr IV's were and even though I could see the red icon of the Firefly, I couldnt see them most of the time. The colors are almost too matching (the dark green for ground foilage and the Firefly's paint). That is one of the things about the Firfly that make it superior to the Tiger in this sim: the Tiger can be picked out and seen much further away.
Please remove the handicap from the Tiger and Pzr IV.

Well, variations on yellow aren't all bad as camouflage in the right environment...if we had winter-killed grass, etc. BUT, since MA terrains are chromatically like Ireland on steroids, :D , and the Sherman is exactly the same color, it has a "Predator"-like camouflage advantage. (Don't select any of the mottled black/green custom skins for the Sherman btw. Under AH terrain conditions they actually a little easier to spot than default Sherms against the uniform background.) The dark-brown T34s aren't all that hard to spot IMO.

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago (maybe longer) and someone noted the timeline of German armored colors and that the default was the most commonly used color scheme. That said, in AH there are other concessions made to gaming that go against real life. Like ICONS. To combat screen resolution and color issues that the human eye does not have to deal with in reality certain things need to be done. That is a reality. This is one of them as well. OR do not allow GVers to disable skins. Yes, I know some users might have computing issues with that.

There were a LOT (no, I dont have the actual figures) of German tanks from 1939 to 1945 that were displayed the standard German "gray". If HTC is so worried about keeping things accurate (for the timeline) they could go to the gray scheme and keep things quite accurate. As it is now, regardless of timeline, map, or scenario, the Firefly and T34 bros. have a distinct advantage over the Pzr IV and Tiger because they are seen faaaar earlier due to their neon like colors.
This is a problem and it can be fixed vey quickly with very minimal time or effort on HTC's part. I hope the are paying attenion. ;)

Even better.

Even better.
Pfft. :rock
Better still, let us select the skin we want as the default with a simple right click of the mouse.
:salute

why dont they change the terrain instead? like adding real ones? Darn even the water is green! I would like to use the white T34/76 skin to hide myself between the snow !
-
the whole map doesn't have to be snow just some little touches like on the mountain peaks.
For example Trinity has lots of vbases 8k in the mountains making those areas snowy would be pretty neat.

I like this idea! :aok

You can't have every individual player selecting their own default skin, because then there would no longer be a default. You could have a preferred skin, but that's a different subject.
To be clear, this problem isn't caused by the people who drive the german tanks failing to select a well-camouflaging skin, but by those who are viewing them.
-
Actually, having a choose-able default skin would only exacerbate the problem, as you could have someone choose, say, a winter-like skin for every tank other than the one he uses and then turn off custom skins.

Meh... What Bubi said. :aok

:o shup ewe...
Y'all knew I meant preferred skin. :o :o
I know it's sposed to keep the last skin you chose, but every 4th or 6th time I play, the damn 'default' skin creeps back on.
Maybe I should change the name of the skin I like to "DEFAULT"... Would that work?
Hmm... gotta work on that and get back.

Yeah, that is annoying, isn't it? ;)
