Said she wanted to learn to shoot to release stress. Suggestions? She's fired a Glock and a M1911. I like the 45 personally.
-
Suggestions?
Run.

Glock 23 might be a good happy medium for her.
My wife shoots my full size USP 45 without a problem of recoil. May want to check out the Compact USP 40/45. I'm looking at the Compact too for a CCW. If I don't go that route, CCW gun will be the Glock 23.

A gun is a custom fit kinda thing. But, for most women a .38 is about as large as they are comfortable shooting. Take her to a gun range that rents and let her find one she's happy with.
-
It's like flying to relieve stress, she'll kill someone.
On a more serious note, my 14 year old skiny daughter enjoys shooting the 45, and says it's not more than the 9mm to handle. Get her a Springfield 40 EMP maybe?
-
Tell her sex is a better stress reliever and cheaper, plus chances are she won't kill you with sex if she gets real mad at you. :D
-
Wolf,
If money is an issue 9mm will be cheaper in the long run. Sometimes I just want to pull the trigger and hear it go bang. Other times I want to have my ears pummeled. Find out what she wants to do. She may be happy with a 22 and some cans at 20 yards. Catch my meaning?

She will now have sex with him then shoot him!

And even then, that's a pretty freakin' sweet way to die.
Forget the gun, buy her a vibrator instead.

The last time I took my wife shooting she almost blew a hole in my drivers door with a 357 magnum. Ok, it was a light trigger but no I'm not going to try it again with her.. :rock

S&W 500 or GI 50 ACP. :D
-
What about a 20 gauge shotgun?
-
Dago.....you have to stipulate the sex will be with you!

Did she like the 1911? Although slightly heavy for some, few pistols are as close to ergonomically perfect. Further, there's a lot of ammunition that will make it pleasant to shoot. Shooting light loads is only a recoil spring swap away.

New meaning to the term "Wife Ack" :pray

Little' Commi gun (Makarov) fits well into small hands and recoil isn't as hard as 45....

I would have stipulated that, but I was afraid Wolfala might get mad at her and me in that case. :D

My opinion based on teaching my wife to shoot well enough to pass the new and improved USAF small arms qualification course before she deployed...
Get a fairly large frame gun, and go with something like 9mm. You can go to .40 if she's strong enough and if it's a big gun like the beretta auto the military uses. I taught my wife with my beretta .40 (the exact same gun as the USAF uses but in .40 instead of 9mm), so when she qualified in the 9mm she already knew how to point the thing, take it apart, clean it, and put it back together again.
If she has smallish hands or isn't terribly strong, you can find a smaller gun but still go with a round no more powerful than 9mm. .38 is fine since you can simply buy weak or hot rounds as desired, but I think 9mm ammo might be slightly cheaper and more suitable for an auto if that's what you want.
Since this will be a hobby, she might appreciate a DA/SA auto so she can learn to excel shooting both in DA and SA. Again, the beretta was a fine teaching weapon for this since it has a foolproof decocking lever. Those DA only autos... Might as well get a revolver with the hammer horn filed off since the revolver would have less parts to break.
But again, I'd suggest a medium to large frame gun, maybe a DA/SA auto, in 9mm or no higher than .40. Plentiful cheap ammo and being able to fire it for an hour without wrecking her wrists ought to be a goal.
Alternative suggestion - Get a high quality .22 auto or revolver. She can shoot it all day for a couple of bucks, and it won't hurt her wrists or wreck her hearing. Then she can focus on tack-driving accuracy (if she cares). But it should be a quality gun, not some piece of junk that won't let her show improvement.

I have a browning buckmark in .22, and it's very accurate. I don't recommend it because there is no way to decock it once there is a round in the chamber, and that is a safety problem especially if it's going to be carried in the field. It is a target gun, NOT a field gun. But I used it to sharpen my skills when I was shooting standard pistol in college and it's more accurate than I am.
My point is don't get her the browning buckmark because of the safety issue, but that's the TYPE of precision gun she ought to have if you get her a .22. Something that is more accurate than she is so as she improves, she'll see the proof right there on paper.

Ya'll might wanna find out what/who is causing the "stress" before you teach her how to shoot..would seem to be the prudent thing to do...imho. :)

Gotta understand womenspeak. They rarely say what they really mean
Stress = Husband
Still want those suggestions?
My advise. Get her a water pistol.
-
If the 1911 is yours, get yourself a 22 rimfire conversion for it. My wife has decided she likes my 1911, although she has small hands, her fingers are long, and apparently the grip of my Para P-14 45 suits her.

Quoted for the absolute truth it reveals.

Get her an appoinment with a shrink.
And don't turn your back on her any more.

Take your own advice. While you're at it, seek therapy for your drug issues. As to the original poster, he'll be a lot better off with a wife that knows how to handle a firearm than he would with one who just knows how to smoke dope.

i personally relieve stress with a 12 ga and a box of slugs, sometimes skeet shooting. a little expensive, but when im done my hearing is nil and my shoulder is sore :D.
in your case, a 12 ga may be extreme, but a shotgun or rifle is to big to conceal, at least you'll see it coming. :rofl

Springfield XD, heaviest caliber she can handle, maybe even .45 ACP because XD is so ergonomic.

My old boss suggested this as well. She also did well with the Beretta FX Storm when we were doing some 25 yard practice.
