No!… It’s not what you think!…
Howdy all,
I was going through a cigar box of things I had received from my Grandfather (who passed away over 25 years ago) and ‘rediscovered’ the little derringer he had given me. It’s marked “XPERT PAT. SEP. 23 1878” on top of the barrel. The holster appears to be dear skin.
A quick Internet search tells me it was made by Hopkins and Allen in the 1870s.
It’s a neat little piece. I may have to make a deep shadow-box picture frame and display it on my den wall.

My father has an old gun that his uncle brought back from Germany in WWII. It's a Hungarian "Femaru" Model 37M. Models were made under Nazi occupation and the Luftwaffe placed an order for them. It's like this one....(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL68/1624602/7305829/97034208.jpg)

It’s a .22 short.

I have always seen the market value of guns to be an insult when pricing heirlooms. They just cannot give me enough to cause me to want to part with family guns.

This little gun isn't going anywhere!
I also have my Grandfathers, and my Fathers wedding rings. Oddly, we all had the same size hands. (I lost my wedding band some time ago, so I wear my Dads. Now that I have rediscovered Grandpas (with the gun) I may wear it on special occasions.) Someday, the rings, the little gun, and a few other treasures will be passed down to my daughter or grandchild.

I just cleaned up a 1907 Hopkins and Allen 38 called a Safety Police top break design for a buddy of mine. Unfortunately for him, its not worth all that much even though its in great shape. H & A had a bad reputation for their guns not being very reliable. This 38 in particular got out of time after just a short amount of use,
