Title: Air Temperature?
Post by: Frosty1 on December 22, 2000, 12:28:00 AM
Is the temperature of the air in AH modelled? Seriously though, on a hot day a plane's controls are a bit mushy whereas on a colder day you'd have a smoother ride and the controls would be a bit more crisp. I don't see any signs of it...maybe HTC could model it?

good question, but i think that the affects of thinner or denser atmosphere based on temp would step over the realism line and into the "why in the hell" zone and annoy many folk   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

'IL-2 Sturmovik's flight-model and game engine will take into account air temperature at different times of year.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Modeling temperature might sound easy, but it is something that would make the game more of a pain in the ass.

Because it is a sim, you would not be able to feel the actual temperature. This would cause you to always have to look at a gauge to tell you. This would make it difficult to remember all the time and would cause too many odd things and big complaints. Not worth it if you ask me.

Here's a good idea. If you climb over 30k you get frosty ice on your canopy / bomb window. That means you have to drop altitude to melt it and see where you're going. Of course that would kinda limit low orbit shuttle buffs wouldn't it..<evil grin>

Ah good thread on temperature....

On the times I have overused WEP, you would think being level at 25k or higher and level, the engine would cool nicely...but sometimes it seems like even if i throttle back, or dive down a few thousand feet, no difference in temperature.

Bowser, some people do like realism...even if it means going as far as air temp.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Mmm, cookies are calling.
