So I am a proud owner of Microsoft Flight Sim X, and do enjoy flying around the world in this game. I have heard some really good things about X-plane 9 and was wondering which one is better?
I am intrested in buying X-Plane 9 but I dont want to regret it. I dont know much about it and was wondering if I could get peoples opion on it?
Thanks

Last time I looked at X-plane, it looked like a cartoon-ish version of an arcade version of FS98. Since I predominantly use MAC, I can't fly FS product unless I install them on the WinXP partition. Since I haven't got room there, I don't play it. Played FS2004 a lot on and off line and loved it.

Recently uninstalled MS FS. Sucked compared to AH !

I have most of the MSFS versions. Am currently running FS9 and FSX.
I also have X-Plane 9.
Like all software out there, there are pros and cons about each.
FS9 has the largest number of add-ons out there. You can find many that are free-ware and are really well built.
FSX is catching up albeit at a slow pace. there are add-ons, but remember that FSX was built to run on veesta. So regardless as to how fast your XP machine may be, and how "new" your veesta machine may be, somewhere you will have to tweak something to get it to run as well as possible.
X-Plane is a different world. The graphics are awesome, but the modeling is totally different than what you are used to in the FS series. Setting up the sim is different also where the MSFS stick setup is very similar to AH, the X-Plane set up is IMHO easier. Add-ons for X-Pane, such as aircraft, are primarily payware. There really arent that many airframes that are "free".
FS2004 is still the top-dog on the porch. If for no other reason than the size of the community and all of the add-ons available.

Why not D/L the X-Plane Demo? Try before you buy. :)

I think about the demo. I am at work and was just reading up on it, and didnt even think about down loading the demo.

I have both, And like them both for different reasons. FSX has a great community of free add-ons, and the graphics are phenomenal on an optimum system. On the other hand, Xplane ver 9 has GREAT graphics, though not as good as FSX... but the coolest feature of X-plane is that you can design your own aircraft as part of the software. It uses your design to determine the FM, unlike FSX< where the 3d model is irrelevant. I love Xplane for this reason.. design your own airplanes, or historical "real" planes.
Just my opinion.

Sorry but with the release of Active Sky Advanced XPlane just got left in the past. FS9 or FSX doesnt matter (and no sorry wrong about being designed for Vista too) when recreating real world parameters nothing this side of professional simulators beats FSX and when it comes to affordable non-entertainment sims nothing beats FSX ESP in my opinion.

I bought Acelloration for FSX yesterday. I think its probably the best flight sim out there for any. It does have a wide range of aircraft and it realy dosn't limit you on what you can fly. From jets to ultralights, it realy dosn't matter. Its a lot of fun and worth the money IMO.
I'm sure Chalenge will agree with me on that one. :D
