Guys,
Spawning from the last post it seems there is a great disagreement over what makes a plane uber. Perhaps it is a topic that will never be resolved. Maybe at minimum we can clearly establish which 5 prop planes without question are definitely uber.
My favorite part-time plane aside (C202) I'd offer:
- LA7
- Spit 14
- Spit 16
- Tempest
- FW190 D-9
Not in any order.
If you agree let us know. If not what is your list?
Maybe in this process there is something we can learn about these planes that we did not know.

There are no uber plane...only uber pilots :cool:

I can go one by one and tell you why each of them are Uber, and you forgot one plane in there.
LA7- LA7 is uber because of its guns and speed, that's given. But, it also is a decent turner and I know can out turn a Temp in that category.
Spit14- It's not all that uber, IMO, the only thing it has is good climb. Decent turn, about as good as LA7 turning wise, and it has good guns
Spit16- Probably the most dweeby plane in the whole set, it has good guns and climbs really well. Spit is ok, but its not a ball of fire.
Tempest- I love the Temp, my favorite in the uber plane set. Probably the best guns in that set, and it can turn against some things like a Dora. It has the best climb, below 20K and its a lot of fun to fly.
Fw 190D-9- D9 is good because its an excellent BnZer, good climb good guns but not a good turner. Probably the worst turner in the set there.
The one you forgot to add, and probably the most uber of them all is:
F4U4- F4U4, best in the plane set. It turns inside of just about everything, with flaps. awesome climb about 15K, and pretty good guns. 6 .50s can saw off a wing in no time.

The more I looked at the list of planes in AH, the harder time I had NOT putting a plane on my "uber" list. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.
For me it boils down to who is flying the plane.
An uber pilot can turn anything they fly into a killing machine.
Take an Uber pilot in a 109f vs. a noob in a spit 16 and the noob will die 99/100.
It's the pilot not the plane.
All kidding aside in the last thread, fly what you want and have fun. Don't let anybody give you a hard time about stuff like plane type or score.
The bottom line should be havin' fun, and that is the most import. thing imho.

I never a problem landing 5+ kill sorties in it with 1/2 ammo loadout left in an La7.

i'd put shuffler, akak, murdr, soulss, delerium, or any number of others(in 38's) up against those yuou've listed, and be willing to bet that the listed uber planes aren't so uber against the 38 o deth. :D

That's why I've been flying the Hurri Mk.1 the last couple of weeks...I'm having more fun with it than I have for the last couple of months. It's the Uber-est. :D

HURRI2C IS THE UBERESTIS PLANE IN GAME, just wish it did more han 120 mph...
no seriously it is the pilot, obviously if the plane is junk you can only do so much with it,
I do not fly the german stuff very often, I took up a 152 and out stalled a spit on the deck and killed him, took a few min, but the guy abviously had no clue, I could tell right away, then there was the time I fought a 152 in my hurri on the deck and got smoked, granted, at first I was not expecting him to turn with me and he did, very well mind you,he killed me a couple times in a row, it was awhile back wish I remembered his name,
MOOT comes to mind know that I think about it?

80% pilot
20% plane
or numbers around there.

Where do you like to set your convergence?

Convergence at 250, don't shoot until just after the counter clicks to 200 ('cuz at that point he's actually 300 out) all the way into point-blank range. Eight .303 is fun.

either of these rides under the arse of a good pilot is devastating upon any horde they engage. but obviously if the pilot isnt any good then it was just a very expensive and very short joy ride.

La7 is the 2nd best prop plane in the game.
F4U4 is the 1st.
Tempest is alright, but it isn't a great fighter. Makes for a great cherrypicker, but so does the Tiffie and that isn't perked.
190s are garbage.
Spit 16 is great, Spit 14 is ok - probably on par with a K4.
109F is a surprisingly good plane. If it had a Hizooka in the nose it would probably make the top 5.
I'd say about 75% plane, 25% pilot once you get to a level of basic competency.

In a dive it sheds parts like a cat sheds hair, hardly "uber".
Don't care for the modeling of the KI-84 in the game.
From what I've read, this plane was to be avoided at all costs, hardly the case in this game.
The KI-84 is a hollow shell of what it should be in AH.

Like I said...a plane can only be uber if someone handles it uber like ;) It doesn't matter how good a planes guns are, someone has to be able to shoot them. It doesn't matter how well a plane turns, it takes someone to maneuver them. See what I'm saying? Each and every plane has its pros and cons--something it does better/worse against other planes.

Spit 14 is ok - probably on par with a K4.
If you look at plain performance numbers - yes.
But put handling into equation, and Spit 14 quickly falls from any Über list...

Totally agree. Once beat an la7 in a ju87. After whipping him the first time I try to run :rofl :rofl :rofl for home. He comes back, eats a little lead and then leaves. The other side I was in an f6 and got my tail handed to me by a jug.
