Like many I started my Falcon love story with Falcon in 16 colors, and the 10 missions such as milkrun and Dragon Jaw. Boy was I a 16 year old fighter pilot. Then came Falcon 3.0, where I spent 40 hours straight on it the first time I played. The original Falcon 4.0 was released 10 years ago, and independant developpers kept working on it releasing their own backyard mods. Never paid much attention to that till Wolf's OF Falcon thread. I eard about "Open Falcon" and it's evil twin "Free Falcon/Red viper" mod.
I installed FF/RV over my stock F AF, and what a change. As a starter, all the planes are flyable in the campaign, and the graphics are really something else. The current FF version is 4.0, 5.0 is due to be released any day. I think it's worth your time for the ones that are still looking for a "descent modern flight sim". It's still using DX7, and I have no frame rate issue on my old system yet.

I thought FF was practically illegal since Lead Pursuit licensed the rights to the game from Atari?

It's my understanding that u can debate all night on that. To me, if Lead Pursuit haven't shut them down yet, they don't have much of a case.
