Title: AvA server
Post by: Anaxogoras on December 30, 2008, 03:58:10 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot that the AvA shares the same server as the Main Arena, and today is Titanic Tuesday.

How do we persuade HTC to move the AvA to e.g. the Mid-War server?

Yea I just looked and its like this.

The problems only start when numbers start to raise in the MA. I would love to see a staff member delete the whole MOTD so we can see if that is what making people lose UDP and cutting VOX out.

Wow, that is an eye opener, Larry.  As if EW and MW couldn't share server space with the tiny AvA... :noid

We did that one night TK, remember?  It made no difference.

the MOTD wont make a difference on server, its just a graphical display within the game. that part of it is probably part of the local program on your drive and wouldnt affect anything anyway.  its the amount of processor power thats being utilized. as the load increases, it has to start dropping things. thats probably why udp and vox drop out. imagine the throughput of 500+ people on vox at the same time. between squad and range, its huge. its too much for the server to handle. im sure skuzzy would have better insight to this then me, but this is just my 2 cents.

Actually you just made the MOTD say a few words not deleted it all together.

It's not the MOTD that's the problem.  It is sharing the same server with TT that is causing these headaches.

Try this; Go to a convention that's crowded and try and have a conversation in the general area where you don't have to shout, or repeat yourself.  Then write a note to whoever you're talking with...

Typing out a message may take longer, but they use far less resources than Squad or local channels do.

Teusday is the new family night at my house.
Same.... but the game keeps drawing me back in hopes....

FWIW - Larry showed a command the other night that I didn't know existed.  The .RESETV to reset Voice when you lose TCP/UDP.   Works pretty good so far.

Last night "Bear" didn't have VOX and I told him to just keep re-logging and after about five minutes he logged on without losing UDP and his VOX worked. Later that night I logged back on and couldn't get mine to work. After re-logging about twenty times I typed .resetv as soon as I logged into the arena. Then again after I lost UDP and my VOX worked for the rest of the night. You just have to try hard and you'll get it to work sooner or later.

Send an e-mail to HTC support,  maybe if they get enough complaints about it they'll take notice.
