1. Denial:
"No one can make that shot."; "That's im-pos-si-ble!"; "No plane climbs like that!"
2. Anger:
"Why do I always die in a collision? It's not fair!" "NO! This is bogus!"; "Hey you dweeb, stop HOing me!!"; "You picker! DA... NOW!"
3. Bargaining:
"Maybe I should read the trainers' site?"; "I'll shoot you down then you shoot me down, over and over. No one will know."
4. Depression:
"I suck at this..."; "I'm never going to get better."; "The people have changed."; "Maybe I'll just argue all night on 200."
5. Acceptance:
"LOL! I collided! My bad."; "Great flying! <S>"; ".squelch <username>"; "Nice shot! Fun fight! <S>"
Happy New Year! Have a fun 2009 in Aces High... because it's a game. ;)

The only person that I've flown with, who I would consider to be under number 5 is Wurzel.

and ME :D

I think im currently in stage 2 moving into stage 3 :/
-
Stage 1: Check for the climbing part
Stage 2: Check for the HOing part
Stage 3: I've not really experienced this one, except in a prolonged GV battle.
Stage 4: Mine is more along the lines of "jesus no one engages 1v1"
Stage 5: I find myself saying "whoops" a lot. :)
-
I believe there is a missing step. Somewhere between steps 2 and 3.
Step 2.5: Post on the forum complaining about other pilots, squads, planes, tactics.
-
These have been my stages, altough it spans a few sims, not just AH.
1. New to the game. Eager to learn, envious and doubtful you'll ever be as good as some you see in the game, but full of hope.
2. Really into the game. In a squad, big on base captures, coordinated play with other squads. Mainly bomber stuff.
3. Learning a bit about fighters, actually getting pretty good in them.
4. Uses fighters pretty much all the time. Loves the competition, takes part in all the King of the Hill stuff, makes sure the kill ratio stays up. On top of the world.
5. Becomes routine, live die, doesnt matter as long as you find a good fight. Often times log in, stare at the map in the tower. Finds ways to make the game more fun, pretty much enjoying squaddies is the highlight of the game.
If there is a 6th stage Im pretty sure it has something to do with a delete button. :/

I got 1 :)
Step 3.5: Start threads on the forum talking up your self/squad because the community fails to show due reverence <snort>.

What about this one?
Step ?: Continually make posts at the bbs about how you no longer have fun playing Aces High. Roll your eyes and look down on people who are having fun, while explaining why they should also be frustrated and not have fun.
-
My experience has been slightly different
Stage 1: Skip stages 1-5
Stage 2: Grit your teeth and play the game, no matter how often playing it makes your head feel like it is going to explode, no matter the endless frustration and screwups that happen even though you study ACM like a Shaolin Monk studies Kung-Fu. Ignore the fact that there are apparently semi-retarded lemurs who don't know an Immelman from an ice cream cone and who likely play with a beer in one hand and one thumb up their butt doing better in this game than you. Despite all these facts you will continue to play AHII because it's more addictive than crack.
Stage 3: To help you deal with Stage 2, pray vehemently daily for the Earth to fall into the Sun.

The Bipolar.. well there aren't really stages. It's just the bipolar stage isn't it:

Hey! Pretty good :)
Both Rolex and Filth kinda got it nailed down :rofl
-
Dang, I skipped 1-4 and am now kind of stage 5...
-
The only person that I've flown with, who I would consider to be under number 5 is Wurzel.
Thanks Kazaa, in reality I'm more near number 4 lol..........but I am learning :D
The main reason I dont fly off the handle, is its my decisions that put me where I am - If I'm low and slow in a furball, I put me there. If I'm in the middle of 8 or 9 enemy cons, I put me there. My decisions are what get me into trouble or killed ingame - so I can only blame myself. I'm learning and making better decisions - but damn me, its fun to drop into 8 or 9 people and see how long I can survive (I even occassionally kill 1 of them first lol)
Wurzel

Im between 5 and 6. Actually since very few squadies are on any more, i think i'm closer to 6

I thought #5 was recieving ultimate knowledge from the Dalai Lama. Damn, I think that guy in the robe lied to me. :furious
Was the robe opened or closed? That makes all the difference in the world!

I have been in stage 5 for so long getting shot down just doesn't hold the excitement anymore . and its all my fault . But Rolex has got this one down pat . :)

Been 5 for a while. I enjoy the people more than the game.
The scary, or maybe not so scary part, is that I could walk away now and not look back. Still have some hope for the game over all, but less optimistic. That in itself is probably more of a reflection on me than the game however.
-
Hello gents, I would like to add the following:
Stage 6: You are the best pilot in the virtual skies of Aces High 2, unkillable in 1v1 and feared by every rookie!
That's my goal, all was has been and always will be!

Ahhh these boards will do that to you. Just pull up an old clip of you shooting everyone down and you will instantly get your enthusiasm back
-
Hmm..
Just two stages for me I think:
1. Learn how to out-fly Texture
2. Attempt to pass on the knowledge
Impossible you say? Anything is possible with time, just gotta figure out the waiting part...
On a scale of 1 to 10 between the two I'd say I'm probably at 8.7, unfortunatly I seem to be jammed up pretty tight at this point.
-

hah the combined Few experience, mainly inspired by Connery of course. :devil
-
Filth definitely nailed my progression through the years. That is excatly what my timeline would look like.
-
On rolex' chart I see myself as long since riding in catagory 5 with occassional, usually unwarrented trips backs to stage 2 :lol
-
Stage 7: Start a long flight, minimize the game… Shop on ebay… Wonder what that extra tab is on the bottom of the screen… Click on it and remember you were playing Aces High.
And the best-case scenario… Realize you got a kill while you were AFK.
-
I believe this one is circa 1998 (AW). I always liked this progress list.
[Class 1] fluffluffluff'n Dweebs:
These "pilots" have no idea how to fly and their first kill is probably one of their teamates. Their first contact with other pilots looks something along the lines of ''''''///@%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%SFA@#%%!@!!. They never stop getting vulched, other players from the other classes always like to see these guys log on. If they dont get some training or help soon they usually lose interest or get pissed off and leave the game alltogether.
[Class 2] Plain old Dweebs:
They have figured out how to get a kill and usually do one of two things; 1. They become a buff "artist" and usually join people as a gunner or decide to milkrun ungaurded bases; 2. They become a poser or a follower and hang around with some of the better pilots picking off the wounded. They usually try to start a squad and then ask everyone they see in HQ to join whether they know them or not.
[Class 3] Vulch/Alt/Gang Dweebs:
These pilots have learned that the easiest way to get a kill is to always have the advantage. To repay their old "buddies" they like to setup the enemy and call it roping. The only real rope they know is to go up and stall, zoom the enemy, go up and stall, and continue that process thinking they are kicking their ass. The ***** tulips and runners fall into this class. They think that the more points they have the better they are.
[Class 4] Furballers:
When Class 3 has learned that nobody really respects the way they fly, they usually will fall into this class and prove themselves worthy. They will go into a fight no matter what. This class hates BnZers and would rather die in a 5 on 1 then land 8 kills. They have found the true sence of the word "FURBALL". I respect this class just as much as Class 6.
[Class 5] ACE (Alt Monkey):
This class knows how to manage E and how to use ACM to the point where they are just about unkillable. Any time they die they usually come up with an excuse like "the phone rang". They will never admit they ****ed up. Just a little different then Class 3, they are both point mongers except the ACE cares about his ratio too. This is how they can tell if they are any good, if they have more kills then deaths and more then a 1:1 land/kill ratio.
[Class 6] Vet:
These pilots you will usually find dieing for anyone. They can pork, kill, BnZ, rope, just as long as it gets the job done. They dont care if they die in a buff or in a spit, they are there to have fun with their squadies and teamates. These pilots recognize skill and are usually the most benificial to their country. They like to go up against the pilots from classes 3 4 and 5.

I'm still looking at GOAL'Ys Avetar or whatever you call that picture......

Guys from Class 4 hate guys from class 6
I started in AW and learned this class first with the RANGERS then brought it with me to the MAW. Score then meant nothing to us and geting the job done always took priority. We all flew that way back then and I've never looked back since but then again I would not call myself a vet in the way of being smart sim pilot. Being not overly cautious means I'll probably never be a great sim pilot. heheh
I hardly ever land and usually take on more than i can handle. I still fly the same way I started after all these years but with a little more experience now. My new squad RV likes to run missions and try to make it home in a group. Maybe it's time I started trying to learn something new :lol

Stage 6
Work on Leadership skills within the community. Organize missions in the short term or organize events over the long term and carry them out to enhance the Fun Factor of this game for yourself and other players. This changes the face of the game for all, for the better IMHO
My goal is to get to stage 6 and hang there for quite some time if I ever get that comfortable with this game. Right now I am at the stage where there is a pretty serious Gravity Well around my AC. I recognize it and am working to reduce it, with some minor successes to date.
For example there are some pretty great people flying this game that are at Stage 6. Like those that are running the MOMs, guys like Trukk that ran the HARM missions, and guys like Thundregg, Falcon23, ghi to name a couple I know of. I fly Bish so I only really know those at stage 6 in the Bishlands. However I know there are many others in Rookland and Knightland as well. I know because I encounter their missions and usually die a white knuckle death... lots of fun though
Later,
