I let my sister use this computer once. First thing she did was clean the keys on the keyboard. Man I was pissed!! This is my old original keyboard I got with my Micron in the late 90s. It had a nice patina on it.

I cleaned my kb out at work once and only half jokingly said I blew a 6 inch sub out of there.

i just pop off all the keys 1 by 1 and clean them in a bucket with soap and water. Use a old paint brush to remove dirt that was under the keys. Then spend hours trying to remember where all the keys went......

My wife told me the keyboard was filthy.I told her I'll pick a new one up in a week or so.Her response,"Why not clean it?"My response,"I'd rather spend $20 than waste 30 minutes trying to clean the toxic waste off this thing."

I can't imagine you guys have jobs?  If you do...then I have to ask - why not just blow/vacuum them out and use some 409 or windex and clean the keys? Or shell out the $10 and get another one?

Just saying what most are thinking, that's all. :)

It takes all of 15 minutes to do. Why would I spend 20 bucks on a brand new keyboard if I have a perfectly good one thats just a little dirty? It would take longer, require more effort, and cost more money to go out to a store and find a good keyboard. Besides, some people like to tinker and fix their own stuff instead of just throwing it away.

My keyboard is pre windows 95.
It is the only PS2 keyboard I've ever found without a windows key on it.
I've been known to physically remove windows keys and put them into the garbage disposal unit.
I ain't doing anything that will risk it not working.

From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216893 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216893):
Quote
To disable the Windows key, do the following steps:

   1. Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.
   2. On the Windows menu, click HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE on Local Machine.
   3. Click the System\CurrentControlSet\Control folder, and then double-click the Keyboard Layout folder.
   4. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, type in Scancode Map, click REG_BINARY as the Data Type, and then click OK.
   5. Type 00000000000000000300000000005 BE000005CE000000000 in the Data field, and then click OK.
   6. Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

:)

edit: actually the MS instructions are wrong. you should copy the reg key from the web page and paste it into the reg editor so there are no typos

There is a checkbox somewhere on windows XP that allows you to disable your windows key... I just forgot how to find it since I've never needed it again after finding it the first time... ever.

Because there's sticky junk underneath my keys that catches things. Plus that stuff bigger than the space between the keys manages to get in there. There's actually no way to vacuum mine out and call it clean. It's just that bad.

In the top menus, go to Image>Attributes... and make it 1x1. Then when you paste whatever it is into it, the image will resize itself and you won't get that massive white "border."
