Are there any plans on making engines lose performance on a graded scale or are we sticking with full power until total failure
or as rarely happens, instant engine loss due to catostrophic failure?
Understanding that oil reservior and coolant system leaks wouldnt affect the engine performance right away but shouldnt we have a damage measurement that provides for partial loss of engine due to engine block or pistons taking damage?
It would seem to me that having to deal with a crippled airplane engine would add some ball tightening to the overall experience.
Right now its just balls to the wall until death. Kind of takes the feel out of it.

This is that whole REALISM issue that i keep suggesting,... :mad: Im with ya yeager.. Dunno who else is. though.. :D

DeeZ ya have to keep in mind that Ah is a young sim game, with the limited staff AH has they can't address terrain issues, new aircraft, and updates, so therefore things have to have a priority and it would appear that realism issues you would like to see are most likely pretty far out on the horizon, so we will have to be content with a few new planes here and there, some vehicles now and then, and a new terrain as desert, most folks I think are into the competition of combative ACM, the top gun sorta thing, more realism would be cool to say the least but the returns for the hours of software development would diminsh quickly

AH has come a long, long, long way since early beta. I dont remeber how long we flew without aerodynamic compression but it seemed like forever.
In my opinion, AH is about as fleshed out as one could hope. For me, other than adding new machines, most of the work ahead is refinement. For me AH is now plenty of game, in fact AH is game saturated. Im ready for the more delicate things to come into play, like the engine damage I described above.

Yeager, in the 190A/F you will find the opposite effect. No oil leaks, no smoke, just engine fully stopped over'n over. In the other hand, in the La7 you'll find smoking engines working full power forever. Cant say about the rest of the plane engines.

Is it possible for the engine to keep running if let's say a .50 cal happen to blow through a piston?
I know from experience with my car engine that if there's a clog in the carbeurator, fuel filter, or a faulty fuel pump, the engine power will vary due to sporatic fuel starvation.
What kind of parts on an airplane engine could be damage, but not cause anything other than total failure?
Fuel line/pump is the only thing that comes to my mind.

ive had an engine oil leak in the p38 like twice.
I've had a radiator hit and engine killed in p38 numerous times but ussually the tail falls off instead(did you know real p38 had 4 radiators? 2 per engine)
I have had my engine(s) shot out completely with but a single ping HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF TIMES

I've only been flying the P38 this tour and I have noticed its 1 ping engine kills. I hear alot of LW pilot crying about their beloved 109's and 190's losing engines after a single ping emagine losing a engine and your tail in a single ping?
By the way I am begining to get to like the P38 more than my zero..... but not yet. :P My zero can still out turn it in a prolonged dogfight and has better low alt performance other than that the P38 has the A6M5 out classed in all catagoreys escept engine pings. A6M5 I have had only 4 or 5 engine kills in over 500 sorties in just around 100 sorties in the P38 I have had aroun 20 or 30 engines shot out from under me.

Some more data about damaged engines:
190D9 radiator out = 15 seconds engine on, then engine off (timed twice).
La7 radiator out = 15 years engine on, then 15 centuries more.

Which of the 190 D9's two radiators do you mean? (Oil or water)
I would expect the Ash to out last the Jumo? under such conditions.
It would be neat if engines locked up when the temp guage went thru the red line.
Then WEP management can be left at the pilots descression or like "combat trim" switched between manual and auto management with auto playing a little safer (and restrictive) than required.
