My wish in subject line. :)

Good god NO!
FPS games are 100,000% different from flight sim games, take an entirely different orientation for gameplay and set of gaming code (it has to be small enough to WALK to everything, in short, and has to look good from the ground) whereas flight sims take none of this into consideration.
You put "ground troops" into AH and it'll look like when you're a chute on the ground: nearly 8-bit in quality, and reminiscent of 1980.
From the air it looks great, so stay in the air.

AHII - WWII Dogfight Simulator - always has been always will be.
If you want to play in the ground war then go play Red Orchestra
If you want both Air and ground then WWII Online is as close as it may ever get.

Gotta have a really good system for WWII Online.

Save up a $1,000 then go build one. It's not as hard as most people think.
Ever hear of Legos? :)

WWII Online is the best of both - the ground terrain and environment is very conducive to fun on the ground, whether it be tanking or playing as a soldier. It's incredible how they managed to make that work and keep it looking great / performing well in the air. It is a system hog though, mostly due to it's ancient engine.
The air war is a lot of fun too - the flight model is more arcadey than AH, but it certainly doesn't take anything away from the sim in terms of enjoyment.
The people who made Warbirds and AH als helped make the flight models for WWII Online.
There isn't another game/sim out there like WWII Online, and it's really unfortunate. It's an outstanding game - very immersive. It's also the most frustrating and rewarding game/sim I've ever played.
I wish another company would make a game like WWII Online, with todays technology/graphics it'd really be something.

The people who coded WB and AH are Hitech and crew. They don't work on WWIIOL, and as far as I know never have.
The flight portion of WWIIOL is considered by almost everyone to be a joke.

I would agree with that, it could be so good yet it is not. I was a subscriber there for a year or so and went through periods of hating it and loving it. The air war was so bad that i pretty much just ignored it because i found it so frustrating. Multicrewing vehicles is fun there, especially the destroyers.
WWiionline as a ground war sim is really very good.

Some of the people that created WWIIOL are the same ones that worked with HT and crew at ICI creating WB.

+1 to the OP's idea.
