Title: I want a new toy!
Post by: CptTrips on January 06, 2009, 03:23:30 PM

I was thinking of getting an AR-15 but the ammo is so dang ridiculous.

This looks like it would be a lot of fun to plink with and the ammo would be dirt cheap.

Thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the drum sight mechanism and I haven't found any good info on it.  Has anyone used that type?

Thanks in advance,

Wab

Did you even look at the price on the page he linked? It costs $100 more than a factory new Colt M1911A1.

Well its a great piece made by a crew that only makes quality firearms.

I think a 5.56mm would be better but this rifle would be a lot of fun too. Go for it if you like it.

This HK is actually not that expensive.  You can find them for around 500$ USD if you look around.  I don't own one, but shot a friends overseas, and it's a HELL of a lot of fun, and cheap.  I love .22's.

As for the sighting system, you won't find better iron sights out to 50 or 75 yards than the HK sights.

This is the general idea, and it's your typical graduated sight, just turn and burn.

I'm actually getting jealous/angry, as this is one of the FEW new firearms that our RCMP overseers here in Canada aren't allowing into the country for some crazy reason, as pretty much everything else, even 7" AR15s are coming in.  I hope you get it Wab.

I think this is my next choice for a new toy:

http://www.kriss-tdi.com/ (http://www.kriss-tdi.com/).  I'm thinking the 5.5" threaded barrel since suppressors are now legal in Missouri.

Not cheap though.  Starting prices around $1600.

Here is the "Future Weapons" segment on it.

A SMG design weapon in 45acp with less recoil than the MP5 SMG in 9mm.  (Of course, I would be getting the Semi-Auto "civilian" version)

PS.  It doesnt solve the ammo cost problem.  45acp is running 30-35 cents per round.....

Semi-auto nearly defeats the purpose. A Thompson SMG (the inspiration behind the Kriss) is just as accurate one shot at a time.

Second/third/fourth shot follow-up.  Thompsons have a pretty good kick to them, those follow up shots are not that easy.  Plus the Thompson is freakin heavy!  I would LOVE to get the SMG version, but unfortunately the current US federal law prevents me from owning one without an excess of ATF licensing and recurring fees...
