Title: Asus Drives
Post by: Fulmar on January 06, 2009, 09:51:23 PM
Anyone every have any problems with these?  I just bought the Asus DRW-20B1LT from Newegg.  (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135183)

Drive was DOA, wouldn't power on at all.  First time in 6 years I've had something faulty or DOA come from Newegg, or Asus for that matter.

No experience with that item.  But I can tell you in the past 2 months I have RMAed more ASUS products (over 20) then I have in the past 5 years total!

Usually when I build a PC I use and ASUS mobo.  I've built for personal, family and friends and never had a problem with an ASUS mobo.

I have dvd player also by ASUS in my PC and I purchased an ASUS G50 gaming laptop that is very reliable and has 3 stages of overclocking.

Their products have always satisfied me.  I wonder if they have moved their production facilities to another country?

I've got 2 Asus optical drives in my new machine.  No problems with either although I don't use them that much.

I have a very similar ASUS drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135157) and I've had no problems.

I've never had a problem with the Asus boards I've owned over the years.  This is the first non-motherboard Asus product I've bought before.  I actually used Samsung and Toshiba drives for years, but this one had Free shipping and a $10 rebate at the time.  Now I see a similar Samsung drive was on sale yesterday for roughly the same price (even after Asus rebate) and free shipping.

Off to RMA it.  Will post updates.
