For those of us who get a frame rate hit in heavy smoke,I think it would be helpfull.Thnx<S!>

yep, I think itd be best to have the 3d and 2d smoke as toggle.

3d is the moke we have now

2d would be just a static column of black ink coming up from the burning stuff.

Would nullify the FR hit for low enders and would still be a visual hamper for both 3d and 2d users.

This option for the clouds would be good too.

Time to upgrade your CPU guys.

I've been putting it off as long as possible, but with 1.08 just around the corner, I think I am going to have to just do it.

With trains and roads and new ground features, I think my 20 FPS is going to go right down the drain.

NO WAY, on clouds being an option, please.  They are as dynamic as the landscape. Since thier implementation I've used them any time they've been near me as cover - as well as have the enemy. They are a major feature of AH and are not just eye candy as they work pretty darn good.

As for smoke on damage? I agree. A scalable smoke setting, like the horizon view, would be welcome!

Heh heh.  Yes, I want a toggle for smoke in my airplane so that I can release smoke from a canister on a hardpoint and ruin the guy's FPS behind me.

Dunno Sirloin...you might have something else going wrong in your system.  I run PIII-733 with 512 meg RAM with an ATI Radeon 64meg DDR card and I get constant 20-30 or more in all conditions...and thats without doing any other kind of tweaking whatsoever.  I could prolly get it up higher if I were to try and tweak it somehow.

turn off anti aliasing sirloin.

Westy, the 2d clouds would be like the ones in RED BARON or the old Aces of the Pacific. Its a visual impediment but wont hurt fps that much.

Complete removal (switch off) of the smoke is not a good idea for the gameplay IMHO. I use the smoke on fields to attack GV's. It  obscures the field of view of GV's in certain directions and therefore is very usefull for jabo attacks. It's so cool to race trough the smoke and suddenly see the GV pop-up and take a shot at it.   :D

Not a good idea.  Time to upgrade the PC IMHO.   Smoke is a good hiding place, and realistic.  :)

I see what you mean TAC. Not sure they can do it but it would be nice!

I'd just hate to see smoke and clouds become a user selectable item on each individual fronte end because they are both used tactically by people.

Some of my fondest fights were "cat and mouse" hunts in and around clouds. I also head for the smoke from dmamged hangars anytime I take off from at a capped base in the hopes of using it to evade a vulcher bearing down on me. Not so much for any "gaming the game" benefit via way of a FPS drop on the attackers FE but for the ability to try to make a quick turn and not be seen.
