Some very very dry reading I assume, but that's an awesome score no doubt.  I woulda snatched those up in a heartbeat!

Beautiful! I picked up an Instrument Flying handbook from 1942, very similar looking to that first image at a flea market in Texas for about .5$

You can find a lot of stuff like that if you keep an eye out for it, people selling a box of grandpas old books, or old women getting rid of their husbands junk thats been sitting in the attic for decades.

I've gotten a lot of very old editions of books that way, though so far nothing as good as those. Best I've got is my grandfathers "soldiers handbook" from basic training in 1942. Had my great uncles flight log from the CAP in the late '40s too, but that disappeared probably 15 years ago.

Have you googled him? Or asked Dan? (Dan Knows All)

Having the group and squadron should make it relatively easy to track down at least a little bit of info on him.

This links on this page give some interesting info referencing 38th/71st/Townsville (shown as Townsville, Queensland in the hand written info on your scan)

Townsville was the "home base" for the Coastwatchers. Should be relatively easy to find info on it and its units/personnel. Not like it was an isolated base in the outback.

BiP....hang on to that book.  Don't sell it.  It's History.

Search......dig deeper....it's provenance.  Something very special could develop with some digging.

Must be the stats they accumulated each mission to increase their abilities.

J/K, but it does look like the abilities row on some RPG and simulation games.
