Title: Mission Planner enhancements
Post by: Ripsnort on November 20, 2001, 08:16:00 AM
It would be nice to have a totals box, showing total that have joined the mission so one doesn't have to scroll down and count, a quick view box of sorts.

It would be nice to have the SAVE button also save the start locations relative to the last saved position.  In the case of a 5-spawn position (large, med field) to a 3-spawn, simply have it the spawn be similiar to the last closest spawn position.  I've join too many missions where the mission editor did not reset the start positions and ended up spawning in hangar (and I've done it myself several times)

It would be nice to have a larger text area with a expansion toggle for each flight, so one can not only add the plane type, ord load-out, but explicit instructions of what their flight is to do.

It would be nice to have the ability to add more than the limited 8 flights per mission.

It would be nice to have a password enable box, so that squad missions are not invaded by non-squad participants on squad nites. All it takes it one non-member to fly higher than the rest in a NOE mission...   :(

More than 8 flights per mission?  Wow, Rip you are a serious mission planner!

I like your ideas here.  I think the password-based missions might be easier to implement with an "Squad Members Only" checkbox - then only those in your squad are allowed to join the mission.  Woudl be easier than each player having to type a password in.

What about a waypoint setup for the mission along with setting altitudes for those waypoints. It might help getting those NOE missions going right or even helping when squadron buddies get separated from the flight on long missions and want to hook up enroute.

Now that I think about it do we have a waypoint setup in our mission planner?

We have WP's just not an alt setting for them..how about an auto pilot wired directly into the WP's?  :D  Just kick back and let the mission planner do the walking (until engaged, or over target) (just kidding!)

how about you guys making missions try not to turn the mission planner into a gangbang planner.

If you need 30 guy mission break them up with seperate targets inorder to spread the battle around then simply rolling one horde to one base then another then another.

I dont use the thing anymore because

1. me and my 6 squaddies are more then enough to achieve what we want
2. Large missions given the current map are unnecessary because the fronts are so small that people are fighting around the same bases. Throw in 20 guys in a mission to these same places doesn't help.

If I were to use the mission planner I would set a general plan then set individual missions out each with the goal to advance my overall plan.

But thats neither here nor there because I dont use it and everything is easier typed then done.

just my 2 cents...........

Not what I was thinking of Rip. Thanks for bringing me back to earth on this though. What I was meaning was a "mouse over" of the waypoint on your clipboard that will show the estimated altitude and heading from that waypoint to the next. This way your squad mate or mission people can know where to expect to look instead of flying over or under the formation. In the case of flying over them that would blow the cover on a NOE mission easily.

As for Wotans idea of individual or flight oriented targets I like that idea. This way you don't have all the different members in the flight trying to do everything at once and causing confusion.

We ( the Rapaging Rooks of Retribution ) like the mission planner and would like to be able to quickly set up a saved mission without everyone stuck in the hanger or buffs pointed at a mountain (sorry about that guys).
Maybe have a target list for individual flights, but i guess you could put that in the description. With all the people flying around these days good organization and timing is what is needed for a successful take. The problem is why have an excellent mission planner and have a great tactical strike set up if no one wants to fly missions??  On the mission planner they should have a huge button labeled "Furball" and everyone would show up.

Cya up there

wheres the whine?

anybody not agree with what i've said?

This is an example of you either not understanding what I've said or purposely distorting it because you dont agree.

If I'm wrong so be it but its hardly a whine I don't care what mission you plan. last time in the baltic map my squad intercepted a VMF/MAG (mostly f4 f6fs with alot of VMF types dont kno that it was an official "rip mission" )raid (forgot base but was nw area of the map) and 3 of my squaddies got 16 kills to 2 deaths.

Let me clarify my point with the current maps as they are there is a very limited front and those that run "missions" usaully attack those very same bases which in turn is nothing more then an organized gangbang.

Is this a wrong assumption or observation?

I love the "mission planner" its has great potential but from my observation the way most missions are currently run there really no need fer it.

Ah hell just another whine I guess

yup, if you use the word gangbang, it's automatically a whine.   :)  Sorry there, bro!

Besides, if you get 16 kills to 2 deaths, why do you care how many people they bring!  Target rich environment, baby!!!

Thats right Nifty! We always make it easy for the opposition anyway, none of us are nose bleeders.  ;)

Wotan,

Why not have as many people in the mission as possible?  What’s wrong with overwhelming the target to insure its capture?  I find it hard to believe that the mission planner can have a correlation to gangbanging.  It’s hard enough to get people to join.

Squad missions, sure, I’ve seen separate targets but for a rag tag group attacking two separate targets will most likely end up with neither one of them having an objective accomplished.  This is my opinion anyway.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I’m not sure if this pertains to this particular discussion but there is an enhancement that I would like to see for the mission planner.  The ability to distinguish flights by icon color.  A lot of times I get in the air and forget who are with me in escort, bombing the VH, or what have you.  If each flight could be distinguished by a separate color it would be easier to keep track of when in the air.  Especially mixing it up.

it would be nice to save all the mission variables to file including way points...........

it would be nice to have a planning map which could be viewed "in plan".

it would be nice to be able to save "mission notes" which are given as the mission executes........eg at WP 4 Text "open bomb bay doors"

Things I would like to see in the mission planner.

1. "LAUNCH MISSION NOW" button that can be pressed at any time to start the mission.

2. A "SET ALL FLIGHTS TO SAME WAYPOINTS" or "COPY WAYPOINTS" option for flights that you want to go the same way.

3. A waypoint description text field to allow for breifing info or other important mission data.

4. Deleted flights to actually be deleted and not say "DELETED" in grayed out letters

5. An "AUTO-TUNE Radio" button presented to pilots that are joining the mission, so they don't have to ask "What channel we using?"

6. The ability to re-select and move waypoints with a "click and drag" function.

7. The ability to look Top-down at the map, rather than from the current 45 degree angle.

8. A larger text field for mission description and breifing

9. A "map upload/download" that would allow the planner to upload mission specific clip board sheets that would be availble for mission pilots to download directly to their clipboard.

10. Not mission planner, but : A 'hot key' to toggle through clip-board sheets.

if someone sends 15-20 (ive seen many more) guys at a base where its either relatively undefended or with dramatically  overwhelming numbers then what do you call it?

theres 6 guys in my squad we capture whatever base we set out to get. However We only do that so we can vulch the capture is of little importance   :).

Nosebleeders? dunno if thats directed at me or not but i remember in the ute map climbing up on six f6fs at 24k (thought it was hq raid) and most of ya augering i think I got the film round here some where.

I was in a g2 got 4 kills and a assist and only fired 32 rounds.......

My point wasnt directed at you mag folks I dunnae care what yas do. But theres a few guys on each side that really "do missions" they are always large scale with numbers well beyond what is needed.

I only offered suggestion take it or leave it. But a gangbangs a gangbang no matter how ya dresser up.............

PUNT !!!

I still like the thought of a small text editor built into the clipboard. That way you could jot down quick notes before or during the mission. A download to (clipboard) would be a nice feature also.

And the top downb view in the maproom would make it easier to place waypoints.

GREAT suggestions, 'specially that last one!
