Title: Brain-Reading input device for games. O.o
Post by: Tac on January 12, 2009, 12:15:34 PM
OCZ  NIA Neural Impulse Actuator

Google it or youtube it. Seems interesting little gadget but its really hard to 'see' how this thing works or what it can do.

However, for the price of $97 bucks after rebate its really tempting to try out.

Imagine.. hotas, trackIR and this puppy.

The tech is supposed to read brain impulses which you 'train' the software to translate into commands on the computer. It reads the alpha and beta waves (etc)...

... and I was reading a guy was having issues calibrating his alpha waves for some first person games that really pumped him up... and he fixed it by drinking beer before the game..lol it 'calmed' him down so his alpha waves synched with what he trained the software to respond to.

If you want to use it to "press" a button, it does alright. If you want to slowly pan left or right, it can do that alright too.

If you want to fly the plane, look around, work the weapons all at once with the device... just not going to happen anytime soon. :( Also, it fails the second you lose concentration.

Yeah... see, the device still isn't working at that point. You just think it is, or don't care :)

Wow, this thing looks cool, and is something that I will definitely be buying, see I have no use of my right arm, so every game I play I'm at a disadvantage by only getting to use my one arm.  With this thing it will greatly increase the things I can do while playing, thanks for posting about this device. :aok

"I want to look left. I WANT to look LEFT! Did everything just taste purple for a second? Why do I have an overwhelming urge to kill Obama? And where'd this rifle come from. How'd I get to DC, I was just sitting at home playing a video game! .... What the... I didn't say that, I don't even speak Chinese!"
