Motown. No color, no label, just some of the best music in Recorded History.

Bowling For Soup probably is really all I know from recently from Texas.
Their '04 or '05 hit, 1985 if any of you fellas remember.

Here's another pretty popular one from Bowling For Soup:

IIRC, the recording studio that produced a few of Willie Nelson's early records is still in Austin. (I don't know when, or where, but it's very high end.)
In other news, Bill Engvall lived in Georgetown Texas, and is my friend's uncle. I think Justin (who's his nephew) went up to see him wherever he lives.

hmmm.... Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Blue Oyster Cult, Twisted Sister come to mind..

Hmm...where I grew up we had Ratt, Iron Butterfly, The Zeros, Rocket From the Crypt, Rugburns, Beat Farmers, Mojo Nixon, Rust, Unwritten Law, *gag* Blink-182, just to name a few.
In the town I currently live in, I don't think there is enough space to list all the great bands that came from here but it did spawn such iconic bands like The Germs, X, TSOL, Social Distortion.

The girl singing for this group can really belt it out. Great show!

The Booty Band is always a great funk show

Not a band, but perhaps the best weekly show you could ask for anywhere. Players gather in the parks and play, a nice fellow walks out and asks groups up on stage to perform, simply fantastic.

GFE. Hard to explain this one. It has its roots in the Rainbow Family, a group of gypsies essentially. They would work a kitchen and start banging on pots and pans while some freestyled some lyrics. This developed into Granola Funk Express. Always good times at a GFE show. If your a Bush loving repub I'd avoid, as they bash on the righties pretty hard a lot.
And always so much more. I really was blessed growing up near Asheville in so many ways, music being one of them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Rochester,_New_York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Rochester,_New_York)
From that list, the biggest musician is without a doubt Lou Gramm (lead singer of Foreigner) ;)
However, he is more than compensated for by Rochester producing two awsome actors: Philip Seymour Hoffman (One of the best of our time, imo)
John Lithgow (plays a solid bad guy :) )
