Title: Air Temperature
Post by: warhed on January 15, 2009, 04:05:42 AM
I remember reading a thread a long time ago where someone figured it out, can't seem to find it now though.  Does anyone remember what the air temp is in AH?

If I remember correctly, it was actually well below 0 degrees F.

So I can't even escape from this cold streak in Aces High!
Below 0 here at the moment...yikes!

I assume it conforms to the standard atmosphere model.

A chart here (http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/standard-atmosphere-d_604.html)

The higher you go the colder it gets.

The environmental lapse rate is 1.98 degrees Celsius per 1000 feet or 3.56 degrees Fahrenheit per 1000 feet. Thats for stationary parcels.

Rising parcels of air (saturated and unsaturated) have different lapse rates due to expansion of the parcel and other factors but in Aces High the environmental lapse rate is applicable.

Obviously Pre-Gore values. :) You've omitted the +1.7 degree Hysteria Offset Constant.

The standard atmosphere was done in 1976. That was during the COMING ICE AGE hysteria. An updated version would begin at the boiling point of water and reflect an inversion to the tropopause.

Fortunately, HTC used Ice Age numbers or our density altitude would be through the roof in game.

60 degrees(F) at sea level sounds soooooo nice right now...

It would be nice to see the Mountains above cloud layer with some snow on them instead of green grass
