Title: Changes in Damage Model? New dmg effects?
Post by: Naudet on October 06, 2001, 12:34:00 PM
Has the dmg model changed with 1.08/1.081?

I today lost the left flap in my D9 after a hit. In DX Beta or 1.07 this was no big issue.

But today i got real trouble. The topspeed was reduce a lot, even a NIKI could catch up with my D9.
And i had a bad left roll moment in the controls.

So i think with 1.081 we got a few new dmg effects.

ahhh so this is what i had on the 190a8, i thought my computer was laging or something.Lost left aileron and my plane flew very strangly it rolled but seemed to flop around as i tried evasives the roll went quick then slow then quick totally throwing me off and i ended up careering toward a mountain.I relogged thinking it was something to do with my connect or something  :)

god i hope its not bugged yet again. It took ages to have people accept there was a bug with the engine, how long would a new bug take to be fixed ?  :(

Well, if one get hit so that aileron or flap won't work any more does it mean that that part is surgically removed? Of course not, there should be a lot of twisted metal, maybe remaining part sticking whatever direction. Even a lot used airframe can cause as much as 50km/h reduction for top speed (due to wing deformation that aluminium suffer).

Also, a lot of books say gear falling to down position after hit.

So, wtg if that is the case.

However if it's only an 190 issue, then it needs fixing.

janjan i dont complain about it, but in 1.07 there was no extra drag factor. when i lost a flap the bird flew as normal, just without a flap. But now i got (as it would be real) some extra drag and a tendency to roll left.

I just want to know if HTC did a change to the overall 1.08 dmg model to simulate such effects.

Well, didn't took it as whine.

Some advances would be nice to aircraft modelling though. Hope more details and variance in damage and other stuff (such as radiator flaps) would be modelled.

But lets hope damage model or damaged plane FM IS changed to give more realistic results.

I experienced a new damage effect not seen before or read about - I lost a wingtip/half wing in my La7 when an enemy aircraft exploded underneath me after he hit the ground.  I did not see any ordnance hanging from the wings during the fight so I don't suspect it was a bomb impact.  I won't be following airplanes as closely as they fly into the ground  :)

Took a hit in the elevator in a Yak, and lost a lot of speed and control.  Seemed different than before, but I can't be sure.
