Title: Dead Pilot no longer on line?
Post by: K-KEN on January 19, 2009, 12:16:32 PM
Lately I have shot down several pilots and wanted to send a  :salute only to receive the popup "YADA YADA is no longer online" This a new tactic? Pull the plug so you don't suffer the pangs of death? Maybe it was a freak but last night(early this morning) I shot down a pielet - good stick and great fight, IMO, sent an immediate :salute and poof, not online.  I know I type slow but jeez...
Just asking if anyone else has seen this... ?

Maybe they get :furious because they get killed (because they are 2 L337 to get killt) and leave in a huff.

Some people get too bent outta shape over a game.

When I'm on my last flight of the night and get shot down, I'm usually logged off about 2 seconds after being teleported into the tower.

Besides, only the winner gives a salute.

This person could either be real heated and was mature enough to just walk away, or was the last flight.  Either way, I wouldn't worry about it.

I find this not true.  When and if I put up a good fight and lose, I'll salute first.  I enjoy a fair good fight till the death.  Of course i could be angered at the time cause I was Hoed by 5 ponies looking for a fair fight.

I rarely salute. Not that I don't want to. It's just that some <S> seem more discourteous than flattering.

90% of the time when I log off for the evening, it's immediately after I hit the tower.  Usually I try to say "just one more sortie," which turns into at least 5 more.  Then by the time I get to that last one, I hit alt+f4 & take off. :)

I had a good fight going last night with someone and augered giving him the kill.  I saluted and didn't get one back but I'm positive it was because I was in a Spit and this particular player is all hoity toity about people who fly Spits.  Whatever.

I've always done that Kken since AW days. Mostly I'm tired and well what the heck I'm in the tower. Other times I take a few minutes off to think through what I did wrong. Then other times I am just PO'd.  So I need to cool my jets. No disrespect intended.

I can speak for just myself on this issue. When I'm thinking........  "ya know "I oughtta do something today"......I like to land a few kills then check out,....but if I get killed, thats usually the way I end up the session. Kilt....log.....on to something constructive around here. I believe that is a little more accurate than the "plug pulling".  :huh

Thats not true Del.  You and Pawz shoot me down all the time. :D  I always salute when it's a good fight....win or lose.

Another possibility is the spelling.  For example if you are trying to <S> "pielet" it could be spelled p1elet, piel1t or p1e1et.  The number 1 and the lower case L's and lower case I's all look the same in the radio text bar..

I sometimes log-off immediately to watch the film, particularly if it was a memorable fight against someone I know or if there was a move performed I want to dissect. If I wait I forget to watch it usually.

I do the oposite. I salute those who shoot me down (if it was a clean fight). I ofcourse salute back if the guy i kill salutes me. I feel that it is up to the victim to salute me if he feels i flew well.

I'll salute for a good fight/effort win or lose, I realise it may look like rubbing it in if I win but I'm saluting for the fight not the result. probably better to type gf on 200 but I hardly ever tune it, chances are the other guy isnt tuned either.

I really hate it when some twit Salutes me after Bombing me in a GV or killing me with a manned ack or some other really challenging effort on his or her part.(usually 2,3,4 or more on 1) Of course it's rare that I'll get a Salute from someone that just got their butt kicked with Alt, E, spixteen,LaLa or 5 friends.

Same here. (I'm usually the victim anyway). I do send salutes though to victims if it's obvious they're beginners. Not gloating, just telling the new guy I salute his effort. :salute

Been down that road too many times to count  :uhoh, and everytime it's <S> SHawk. :aok

(except for the last time when you HO'd my 262 with your CHog. Couldn't see the keyboard for the tears :cry)

I try to type something out before my plane hit's the ground and I see who it was that shot me.

It might be a simple "n/s" or "g/k", but I make the effort.

I found that sometimes after I see the name of the pilot that shot me down I don't want to say anything, which is why I try to do it before I know who "got" me.

When I used to play Quake I could pretty much instant quit out by hitting console button+ q + tab + enter. I became so good at doing it.. I'm sure a lot of people get good at ALT+f4 instanteously after theyre shot down and get a little bit grumpy.

To answer some questions, I usually check the text buffer for the correct spelling if I get the error message and then try again. So, there is no spelling error on my part. I see many folks tend to just bail. I guess it's the nature of the beast. The roster usually confirms they are gone.

That is so very true shawk I must have painfully owned hundreds of people in uber planes from disadvantage in something like the mosquito. Only the most decent of people seem to accept it and be able to laugh and compliment when they are killed in unlikely situations. Most MA flyers seem to think a mosquito that kills their spit16 must be a hacker or cheater in some way.
