Title: a wish that all could benifit from
Post by: FLOTSOM on January 19, 2009, 12:39:35 PM
one of the things that i have realized since starting to play this game is the universal truth that stick calibration settings are not optimum for all A/C GV's universally.

for instance when i have been flying the k4 and then switch to the f4u my stick calibration is to doggish and not responsive enough to maximize the benefits of the f4u. but if i set my stick to maximize the f4u then switch back to the k4 without recalibrating and resetting the sliders damping and dead band then the stick is too responsive and i spend more time fighting the over turns and excessive responses from moving the stick or rudders too quickly for the k4.

so the point to this wish is that each a/c and gv had a mememory location for its own stick calibration and settings. just like the head views, when you load the specific a/c or gv the stick calibration and settings are loaded as well.

yes it would mean having to set them when you used the a/c or gv the first time, but we already do this for the head views anyways.

or if not for the actual stick calibration, as this may be problematic, then for at least the sliders damping and dead band settings.

well what do you think? am i the only one that feels that different rides respond different/better to different stick settings? or has the mad cow just finally gotten the upper hand in the fight for my sanity?

<-- Former ham-fisted flier.

Perhaps develop some finesse with the stick...
Don't pull as much with a more responsive plane.

i understand that, and am working on applying that policy. but i still find that making adjustments to my calibration depending on the plane seams to give me a better fell of the particular a/c and allows me to develop a better feel and knowledge of each individual ones capabilities.

it also seams to help dramatically with my targeting in some a/c. some are much touchier to movement when firing than others. ie heavy cannons v 50 cals.

i think it would be easier to be able to set it once to my particular liking in that ride and save it that way.

You're confusing stick calibration with stick scale settings.

It does actually sound like a good idea.  Probably not the plane-specific calibration thing, but the deadband, damping and scaling should be feasible.

You can kind of do this using Modes now can't you?

What warhead said.

This is very possible using the 4 modes.
Easy enough to have at least 3 totally different stick scaling's. And still have a seperate GV Mode.
If your willing to combine your AC and GV mods you can have 4. I'd suggest you start out by first mapping a button or key to cycle the modes.  Then in mode 2 "copy mode 1", etc. This gives you a base line to start with, with all functions the same as what your used to.

What you can do with this is only limited by your imagination.

Furthermore you can get access to all 4 modes with a single key or button.

Mode 1  Button X  "set to mode 2"
Mode 2  Button X  "set to mode 3"
Mode 3  Button X  "Set to mode 4"
Mode 4  button X  "set to mode 1"

This sets up a simple cycling switch which can be done with a single button or key.
Push the button and you jump to the next mode and the text bar tells you which mode your in.
Normally you'll always start a new sortie in mode 1 in planes.
