My humble wish is that all future aircraft fill in gaps in the scenarios we run, or would like to run. Here are my top 3 theaters of war that are missing important aircraft:
Battle of Britain
German:
Ju 87B-1 (or B-2)
He 111H-3
Do 17Z
Bf 110C-4 (not the fighter/bomber variant)
Bf 109E-7
British:
Spitfire Mk II
Hurricane Mk II
I know someone is going to ask why I didn't include the Ju 88A-1 since RAF fighters have a hard time catching the A-4: from what I have read the A-4 was actually slower than the A4, so be careful what you wish for! ;)
Eastern Front 1941-1942:
Russian:
I-16
Yak-1
Yak-9
LaGG-3
Pe-2
Tu-2
German/Finnish:
Ju 52
Ju 87B-1 (or B-2)
He 111H-3
Do 217
Bf 109E-7
Bf 109F-2
Bf 110F
Buffalo
PTO 1942-1943:
American:
Buffalo
TBD Devastator (Midway)
B-17E
B-24D
F6F-3
Japanese:
Ki-43
Ki-44
Ki-45
A6M-3
Ki-21-IIa/b (Japanese bomber/transport)
G4M
--------------------
Ok, there's my list! If I had to choose one from each theater, it would be these: He 111, Pe-2, and G4M. I would also say that, besides the He 111, the Russian and Japanese aircraft take priority over the rest. :aok
-
BOB = He-111
EF = Tu-2
PTO any of the Japanese planes.
-
Here, let me throw in a rant so I can get some attention. :furious
-
remodel F4F/Fm2. I love them both almost as much as my F4U anyways.
-
Add the F4F-3 to the list for the US in the PTO. Making her an armament variation of the -4 like now really isn't appropriate. The F4F-3 had fixed wings and larger fuel tanks, and I THINK was actually faster, as well.
A B-17F for Western Front 1942-43 and later in the PTO would be nice as well.
Oh! And a PBY!
-
I guess we would need to run a few more scenarios a year then. Which I am not sure
is possible given the workload the team already has.

We need early war aircraft for scenarios.
We have more then enough in the MA now....what??? we want to get more uberplanes into the MAs so we have more uberstuff run and gunners?
How many 109s do we need? We have enough. How many more spits? We have more then enough
How many more Jugs? We have more then enough. 38s? We have enough, same with F4Us. Etc.
The only thing that intrigues me now are the events. The MA imho is for the massses. There is very little virtual reality in the MA.
Like....P47s attacking B17s and 24s. 109s shooting down Ju88s. Spitfires attacking Lancasters. Ya...that's virtual reality at its' best.
You get my meaning.
You will note when FSO starts on Friday nights the attendance in the SEA. You will also note the attendence in the SEA for Scenarios.
A great deal of our community does not show up in the MA. They attend for events only. When FSO and Scenarios are scheduled the
population of the MA drops significantly.
Gee.......I wonder why?

Not sure why so many folks call out for the F4F-3. Supposedly it was lighter because of the wing folding mechanism, I get that. They want a better performing plane, I understand.
However, the F4F-3 only had 50-odd initial orders, and only 90 orders of the F4F-3A (with slight improvements). The F4F-4 was already being delivered and replaced many of the -3s by the time Pearl Harbor came around. Halfway through 1942 the -4 was the most common plane.
Basically the -3 is a prewar plane with little impact. It would have precious little relevance to scenario use, IMO, as all USN scenarios are going to be at least early-to-mid 1942 or later. That's F4F-4 territory, which we already have.
-
The F4F-3 would be the most representative type for Coral Sea, and I believe the majority of the F4Fs at Guadalcanal were actually of the -3 and 3A type. I know for certain one of our skins in the game (Bob Galer's ship, VMF-224 with the red cowl and fuselage band) was actually an F4F-3.

Actually, Hajo, if we want to do an early Russian front scenario, then you would need to reconsider your opinion. Neither the 109F-4 nor the E-4 were the principle Luftwaffe fighters of that theater.

Nice catch. I meant to say that the A-4 was slower than the A-1.

IAR 80/81
Fixed it. :aok

Good addition, treize. For the early war we have to go with the IAR.80A, which was armed with 6 x 7.92mm guns. Apparently the IAR.81C, with the 20mm MG 151s, didn't see action until 1943.

I agree 100%. When I say "scenario" I'm referring not only to the quarterly events but also the FSO's and Snapshots. In Warbirds the S3 was the backbone of the entire sim and every time I fly the FSO there's always 200+ in attendance. Point is the player base for these events is strong enough to justify including these aircraft even if they won't become the darlings of the fantasy main arenas.
Bring on the Ju-88A-1, the F4F-3, the Buffalo, the Oscar, the Hamp and all the rest. :aok
-
Buffalo is going to be added. Pyro, sent out a call for info in this thread. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,255747.0.html
At least the Finns will shut up now :D.

Good list!! :aok :rock :aok :rock I would DEFINATLEY like to see some of those planes added too, KI-44 "shoki" and I-16 Two Thumbs Up! :aok :aok
