Title: Screen pauses while using VOX
Post by: Wing19 on January 21, 2009, 08:21:58 PM
I'm getting screen freezes when I hit and release the VOX button. I tried changing the texture size to the minimum and removed the sound packs. Still get the screen freeze. I have a P5Q deluxe with on board sound, E8500, ATI 4850 and 4g of mem. I'm using CH set up with the CH programming.

I did a search but everything I read, I tried with no luck

Any help would be appreciated.

Is this XP? If so you could try turning the sound acceleration down to 3/4 of full. Right click your volume in the task bar, select adjust sound properties. Under the volume tab, speaker setting click advanced, then the proformance tab. Slide the slider back down to 3/4, or 75% If you can't find it that way, run the dxdiag, and click on the sound tab, you can turn it down there too.

On-board sound card use the CPU too so it might be causing a performance hit.

I did this, even went to 50, and it didnt help.  ALthough, I only get the stutters when I first log on ans press the vox button the 1st few times.  Never have a problem after that.

I have tried this and everything else I found in the forums.

I also removed the sound completely out of AH II and tried the vox, still had pauses

Post how many processes you have running. Ctr/Alt/Del. This is your task manager. Bottom left will show how many processes are running. Just a shot in the dark. You should be running with 20-25 processes running. Use enditall2 to end all unesecary processes.

Also could be a driver update on OB sound.

XP service pack 3 may not be a bad thing also with all updates. Your system is more than adequate to run AH.

Just saw your video card drivers. 8.12 are the latest WHQL certified drivers. Here is a link to update. You need to use the ATI driver uninstall in add/remove programs and clean your system of the drivers. Most guys recommend a driver cleaner then a fresh install. You are running 6.14 which probably came with your video card.

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp

Try these quick fixes. Simple and easy. Reply if you have success.

Fugitive. how bout those codecs?

I already use end it all and while running AHII I have 22 process running. I will try the updates.

Your processes are fine 22 is good. Try Video card driver update and maybe a lower screen resolution. Try 1280 X 1024. Also fugitive suggested in direct X sound accelereation at 3/4.

Let me know if anything works.

OK, first thing I would do is STOP being a redwings fan, Bruins all the way this year  :aok

Next I don't think video drivers is going to do much. It just sounds like when you hit vox either the sound "card" runs out of resources, or seeing its on-board sound the computer runs out of resources. Your computer is hefty enough, so I don't think its there, maybe the game. What do you preload in the game? Textures should be ok, but I wouldn't do too many skins.

I'd buy a sound card.

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

There are many versions of this sound card so I'd go with the one that is exactly like I typed.  It's now cheap <$50.  It's a very reliable and GREAT quality sound card.

Remember to uninstall your audiocard in the add/remove program files and then reboot and enter your BIOS where you will disable the onboard sound.
Then save and exit BIOS and shut down computer.  Then read installation instructions before installing the sound card incase it requires software to run prior to installing the soundcard hardware.

It could also be network related.  Are you on a wireless connection by any chance?  Behind a router?  Running a firewall on your computer and behind a router?

Whos is your ISP?  What type of Internet conection do you have?  Have you tried running a Ping Plot (www.pingplotter.com) to see if there is any upstream packet loss?

Would it still be netwok related if it does it in offline practice?

I removed all the skins and started with a new install and still had screen freezes.

I updated video drivers, installed service pack 3 and reduced the sound accelereation to 3/4. Still screen freezes.

Do you think it could be the sound max program that im using?

Or maybe I just need to by a soundcard!

You can try upgrading the sound drivers. You have the 5.10, there is a 6.10 out there for the sound chip. I'd try that, if that doesn't work, ya I'd get a sound card.

Have you disabled the sound on the ATI card? Also, get a sound card and disable onboard sound.

Have you disabled the sound on the ATI card? Also, get a sound card and disable onboard sound.

I didn't know the ATI video card had sound. How do you disable it. I did by a new sound card and installed it today and still have screen freezes.

You need to disable onboard sound via BIOS. Sometimes there may be an IRQ conflict with onboard and soundcard. To do this hit delete key when booting computer. Keep hitting it quickly till you see bios screen. Scroll thru the menus till you find onboard sound option and disable. DO NOT change any other settings. Next save settings and computer shpuld reboot. Make sure you have  the updated drivers for your new card as hardware comes with drivers as of the date it was manufactured. It could be 6 months old by the time you purchase it and there could have been multiple updates.

Here is a screen shot of a typical bios screen. This may not be your actual bios but it will give u a lead where to look.

It should be in integrated peripherals. make sure you save and exit when disabling onboard sound.

May have found your problem. Disable onboard sound but do you have duo core optimizer patch??? If not download from this link. This is probably your problem.

I have the duo cor optimizer patch installed, I did this when I built the system. I also have my onboard sound disabled in the bios.

Still having the vox screen freezes

I do appreciate all the comment but nothing has worked to date.

Would it still be netwok related if it does it in offline practice?

What do you mean offline?  You can talk to yourself offline???

Give us your DXDIAG file again now that you have your new soundcard installed.

How does your computer connect to the internet?  Straight to a cable/dsl modem or through a router first?

Kermit,

I will post the new DXDIAG when I get off work today. I do use a router feed from the cable modem.

ahh then you may have ports closed that you need open to transmit. I wonder if that might cause the problem?

If you have internet via your cable tv line:
Try connecting your PC directly to the cable modem.

Unplug the cable from your router that connects to your PC.
Then unplug the cable from your cable modem, that connects to your router.
Then connect it directly to the Cable Modem.

(So basically, you are connecting your PC directly to your cable modem, bypassing your router.)
Now unplug the power from your modem for 1 minute.  Then plug it back it and let it power up.

Now check to see if your internet works.  If so, launch Aces High and see if problem still exists.
If your internet does not work, try restarting your computer, then launch AH and check for problem.

If problem goes away, I'll provide more details to work on your router.

Also, you still have Service Pack 2 for windows XP.  You might want to upgrade to SP3 afterwards.

Kermit, I highly doubt this is the probelm but I guess you never know. It seems to be a sound or video issue.  Maybe It could be the codecs?????

Wing you still do not have the latest drivers for the ATI 4800 graphics card. It shows 6.14 on your dxdiag report.

8.12 are the latest drivers. I posted a link earlier in this thread. Here is the link again.

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp

Make sure your sound drivers are up to date too(looks like they are dated 08/06/08. This should be OK.). Until you update your drivers we cannot troubleshoot your problem. Many times problems like this are setting or driver related.

Again, you have to completely remover the drivers and Catalyst control center. This can be done in your control panel in add/remove programs. There is an ATI video driver uninstall progrram. Most of the guys here recommend a driver cleaner. This removes all the registry entrys and allows for a clean install of the new 8.12 drivers. If I remember correctly, you need netframework 1.1 to install your catalyst control center. This may be a part of service pack3. After installing service pack 3, there are probably more updates. Make sure ALL XP UPDATES ARE COMPLETE.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NETFRAMEWORK 1.1. You can do this by going to contel panel/ add remove programs and it will list there. If you do not have it AFTER ALL YOUR UPDATES ARE DONE, you need to install it.

Death,

I updated to the new video driver some reason it wont take. I removed the old driver as you stated above. I will also do this when I get home. I have updated the sound drivers when I installed the new sound card.

I by passed the router. NO CHANGE

No matter what I do the ATI driver will not update. I removed the Drivers and control center and then I ran a driver cleaner installed the new drivers and it still says I have 6.14.

Am I doing something wrong?

Noticed you have a P5Q---I have a P5QE, using onboard audio, no such issues. (I'm not clear as to whether your problem showed itself with onboard audio)

You have to be doing something wrong. Save the drivers(8.12) and NetFramework 1.1 from the link I posted to your desktop. Uninstall drivers and Cataylist Control Center. Reboot computer when drivers are uninstalled. Install NetFramework 1.1, then install new drivers. Did you check if you had Netframework 1.1? If you have it there is no need to install it. Check it in control center in add remove programs.

After you uninstall your old drivers and before you reboot your computer, go to my computer/right click/properties/hardware/device manager. Display adapters should have a yellow question mark next to it. This signifies there are no drivers. Reboot computer and install new drivers and NetFramework.

Good luck......You may have to reboot 1 more time.

Noticed you have a P5Q---I have a P5QE, using onboard audio, no such issues. (I'm not clear as to whether your problem showed itself with onboard audio)

Earlier in this thread we covered this. he now has a sound card and I hope he disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS.

I save the drivers and the NetFramework 1.1 to my desktop. I uninstalled the Cataylist Control Center and the drivers. Checked to see if I had the yellow ? mark, it was there. Rebooted and installed NetFramework 1.1. Then I installed the new ATI Drivers, rebooted. I then checked the ATI drivers and it still said 6.14. It did update the Cataylist control center to 8.14.

I still have screen freezes when I push the vox channel.

Wing have you tried turning down hardware acceleration?

This was in the 2nd post and I have tried this.

If you don't mind read all the posts and see if you can come up with something.

I have read it all and unfortunately I have not thought of much else to check but just confirm that since you added the new sound card that you also checked that the hardware acceleration is still not at 100% and reboot between tests.

Also in Options of AH go into graphic details and the two sliders at the top (Object Detail and Ground Detail Range) make sure they are both aligned with the 's' of miles vertically and no further left then that.

Describe your microphone to me.

Well then that would leave me to believe that it definitely is not in the game. You are NOT running the game in win98 mode correct? Under the device manager it shows ONLY the new sound card, and under the display adapters it only shows the ATI card you right?

Thanks for the info Wing.

Install your Sound Card from the current PCI slot to the one underneath your video card.

Kermit

I moved the sound card to all the PCIe slots available and removed and reinstalled the drivers. The only slot I didn't try was the PCIe slot for the ATI video card. I do get pauses in offline practice when I press F12 or the T key, no other key causes pauses.

Any other ideas

I do appreciate all the help from everyone :salute

Could you gather your IRQ info again and post.  So we may see the changes to your system.

In your last IRQ posting, you had your video and sound card on the same IRQ number, so by changing the slots, you changed the IRQ of your sound card to something else which we'll find out once you post your IRQs again.

Kermit,

I will post this when I get home, when I did move the card around it was still on IRQ16

Hmm, your IRQ isn't changing?  I think XP is overriding your BIOS IRQs.

Try uninstalling the sound card and enable your onboard sound once again.  List your IRQs again so we can see if your onboard is also IRQ16.

Also, when flying online, right click on the map and select I think it's "net status".  Does your variance spike when you press the "T" key?  Does your connection show any delay in the network?  Another possibility is it may have something to do with your network card...

Wing, I am thinking it's either
1)IRQ conflict
2)network card issue
3)or something to do with your Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.

Will know once you gather more info.
Sorry to bother you but also check to see if your preferred recording device and tell us what's it's selected to.

BTW, good luck in FSO. :)

I have messed with all the setting in AH including resolutions.

Mic headsets I have are the Tritton AXPC and the Astro A40

Still have the screen freezes

For use with the SB XFi you should use a straight up headset/mic and not use the USB. If you are going to use the USB you do not need the sound card but certainly using both will cause frame freeze and stutters.

Looks like your problem is from "IRQ 17   Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio"

Likely from USB headsets.  Your headsets are on the same IRQ as your network card.  Each time you press the talk button, your network card gets put on hold so your USB card can do it's thing.

Solutions:
1)Continue using your USB headset.  IF your problem started recently, and you think it happened after a software/driver update for your headset, you can try to "rollback" your drivers first and see if problem is solved.  Otherwise, check for an update driver for your headsets form the manufacturers website.

2)Use a regular (non-USB)headset that plugs directly into your soundcard.  (If your speakers have a headphone jack you can then buy an extention cable (stereo)that plugs into your Mic port (male 3.5mm plug) on the rear of your PC, and run the other (female plug) end near your headphone jack that's on your speakers.  This way you have easy access to both speaker and mic ports.   This is what I do.

If you need any steps in more detail, just ask.

I would go with the straight up headset and avoid the IRQ conflict.

The Astro A40 headset is not USB and that what I'm using. :aok

Tonight I had no screen freezes in FSO. :rock

I check it out tomorrow night and see what happend.

Cross your fingers :pray

If everything is OK I post it, It my have been an IRQ conflict
Thanks for all the help I'll let you know :salute

No pauses while using vox. I'm pretty sure in was the IRQ conflict. By moving the cards around seemed to solve the problem.

Thanks DrDeath for all the help :salute
