When I logged into the DA today, a little survey popped up that asked me how interested I am in WW1 air-combat. :noid

I would love to do some WW! dogfighting . !!!
Nutte :rock :rock :rock

I am interested, but not at the possibility of less energy spent on the WWII era.
-
I said moderately interested. However, I would like to see what they come up with.

me personally........
if i were interested in WW1 air combat, i'd be somewhere else besides here, in a WW2 sim.
:aok :D

It took them what 4-5 years for combat tour till they announced they were going to stop working on it? it's going to be a while before we'll see a WW1 flight game.
-
<---- Very Interested... With the Flight modeling and the everything else HTC has up their sleeves, this will be sweet. :aok :aok

Look up their red baron stuff, or the Dawn of Aces thing I think they were part of.

I'm fairly certain that DoA didn't come out until after WildBill, at about the same time that Moe introduced so-called dispersion into the gunnery model. The F1s could still plink your Spad13 like crazy from well-past 300 yards, making the rest of the WW1 planeset obsolete. From what I remember 50% of the players were in F1s 90% of the time.
-
Guys, even if you are not interested do the entire game a favor and say yes. Chances are you might very well like it and even if you are inclined not to be at all interested it would still make AcesHigh a much more rounded and interesting game to a broader audience. My point is saying No does not do anyone in the game or the larger Genre any good at all.
Please say Yes when asked if you are interested.
Thanks for reading.

As much as I agree with this sentiment,
<---- Very Interested... With the Flight modeling and the everything else HTC has up their sleeves, this will be sweet. :aok :aok
I do this one as well.

I'm very torn. I said 'somewhat'.
-
I don't care about WWI and even less if it's at the detriment of AHII's development, esp. right now. But voted "mostly" for Yeager's reason.
-

Look at it like this: Maybe the folks at HTC are suffering the dulldrums from doing the same WW2 thing for all these years. A few fighting kites might juice up their day a little bit.
In any event, I feel confident when I say any new item added to AcesHigh is better for the entire game and the limited item set of a WW1 arena (assuming thats the likely result) most certainly would not detract in any large degree from the other matured features.
Its a win-win far as I can see.

As much as I love WWI I would rather HTC spend their time making the game they have already better instead of having two half ass-ed games. Take a look at what happened to CT. We waited around four years for it and right when things were looking up they cut the cord on it. If they keep doing these side projects and don't improve the core gameplay they are going to end up like WarBirds.

Slobberdonkeys weren't invented till 1941

Fixed :D

My hunch (if this supposed move is to make sense) is that the WWI game/addition is pretty much ready, already. They have Dawn of Aces and the Red Baron Pizza thing to draw from. They don't need to re-invent the wheel like with CT.
-
it would take them about a week to get a couple of beta biplanes in the game judging from some past titles i've played. :rock

Ide have to watch flyboys first, :aok

Here come the Half circles :D

Sure they worked on WWI planes before but go take a look at DoA, the graphics are very crappy. Its going to take them as long or longer to model any biplane. Because of the wing struts, extra wing, and everything else poking out unlike a stream lined fighter. Then they have to skin it, make the flight model, test it, then release it. In that time they could be adding much needed planes that people have been asking for since this game was created.
-
Dawn of Aces is a great game except for the village idiot (I'm sure you're here too and you know who you are)
and the low numbers. Ten people in doa constitutes a furball, all the fms are screwed and I'm sure HTC will do a good job of it and make it a better game as ien wont fix doa.

I remember WW1 arena in AW3. It was fun to goof around with when bored but it was never an arena you would get lost in. This is how it would probably end up for me here in AH2, fun to stop in every now and again but won't do anything for me. Wouldn't be worth the extensive development imo.
Although like m00t pointed out, if they have something already produced that just needs a little refining that won't cost them a boatload of man hours, then yeah WW1 would be a nice addition. But if it's gonna be a daunting project, then no probably not worth it in my eyes.

I don't know.. I'm just guessing. I don't think they'd ask inside a WWII game unless it wasn't going to displease these same WWII players. The way that makes sense is if development isn't going to suck AHII dry, which most easily happens if the WWI "game" (they could just add an arena, that'd fit perfectly with doing such a survey) is a walk in the park.... Even if a long one.

Can you imagine the dogfights, heck yes im interested. I Posted this topic in the wishlist a while back.
-
I'm very intrested as well but again...If this games suffers because of it I would be very upset!
-
they had balloons in WWI
-
no thanks, not interested
-
I voted no because
a) i only have a minor interest in the first world war
and
b) Having understood the reason for fewer updates than i had hoped for over the past few years was because of the work on CT, i would be quite upset having few updates in the near future because HTC was working on a new project.
-
I'd consider the addition of an additional WWI arena with a few planes not as being a different project, but a huge update to Aces High. :aok
(Though I'm afraid after an initial novelty phase, a WWI would be as empty as EW is now...unless HTC comes with a briliant idea for gameplay)
-
If it was good, I would find a permanent home there!

Agreed. Chances are they're just gonna go ahead and do it if they feel like it though.
-
I'd play. although I'd spend more time in WWII. it would bring in more players, and give more choices. plus give some people more things to complain about

FYI HTC made DOA ien cant fix it they have no more design team or producers

WW2 was the pinnacle era for air combat, Never has there or will be such a huge plane set and innervations in one theatre of war. WW1 was just for play.
However, I would love to see HTC try there hands at modelling a jet or two. Fighter Ace 3 has there very own Korean arena! I wouldn’t mind a modern day aircraft either, I would be in heaven!
HTC shouldn’t be afraid to branch out, God knows the simulation genera needs a boost! Just make sure you branch out in the right direction!

Dogfight in D3As -- you get about the same effect as a biplane dogfight, I would imagine.

Yeah, but not long after Wild Bill bought out ICI. Remember playing the beta at the '98 WB Con and every one was either turn fighting in Camels or Dr.7s or there was some guy in a Spad diving in to pick. I did like it though, but I enjoyed Flying Circus much more for WWI fighting.

:rofl and you think the ENY is bad now........
-
just imagine flight times to target when bombing from a zepplin or trying to outrun a camel!!!
-
How about no base capture in WWI just dogfights.
-
??? why would anyone vote no? All this stuff about change, well here is the change!
-
No thanks.
But, for some folks here it would be right down their alley......
What about a arena that does not have points or very very small point totals for GV's and non strategic land grabs ? This would make people use the GV's a bit less and reduce points for buff missions for bases that are undefended. How about Bonus points and perks awarded for successful Supply and Goon missions ? Which I feel is a very selfless act from anyone that that does this kind of thing <honorable>
How about a arena that just records K/D ratios and perk points? although I am not interested in perks others might be. The MA is like Romper Room.... which is understandable..........But it is the only place to fly and find some form of combat even if it is in most sorties... gangbangs, vultches, and defending against Buffs that are just padding their bomber scores. How about this.... not only award points/perks for successful sorties how about subtract points/perks for deaths, bail outs, crashes, and general dweebery ?
( I am pretty dweeby so I know that I would be on the lower end as far as this goes. ) The better Squadrons and individual pilots would shine through. Leaving the less organized and less skilled pilots/squads to aspire to improve and increase the level of game play overall.
This alone would make squadrons and pilots alike think about choices in who they fly with and how they fly overall.
another few questions if I may ?
Does anyone fly AvA ,Early, or Mid war arenas? the most I have seen in these arenas is under 25 people and last time I went to AVA it was all GV's and Milkrunners.
I am interested in the AvA but, I never see anyone in there.
WWI would be a failure IMHO. But that is up to the PTB. I think that if HT didn't have land grabs and GV battles and ways to grab huge points no one would be in there.
Also......
How does one request a trainer in the TA ? or even get a response from anyone in the TA ? I have been trying for weeks to find a trainer in there. Any advise ?
I asked people in the MA for training and had no response.
The last time I was in the TA I ended up helping a few people new to the game (the frowned on by most) 2 week trial noobs.
.. trying to help them as well as letting them join my plane and taking them up for a demo check ride as well as demonstrating a few basic flight maneuvers. also advising on joystick options. I feel that helping the new noob is beneficial to the survival of the game . just doing the two week trial shows an interest and we as a community should help and nurture new pilots as it will help HTC and AH thrive. that alone would help push for more updates and other improvement's that many of us would like to see the in Aces High's future.
By trying to welcome anyone that wishes to become a member of our community is a very cool thing IMO oop's that word again .. Honorable. :)
Honestly if I had not flown AH and other sims I would have not started a subscription this time. It has been a difficult learning curve even for me after a long time away.
In the past I was a very proficient and considered by others to be a skilled pilot. This is a tough crowd !
I could not start to imagine how the two week trial folks would feel.
Is there a training schedule posted anyplace? maybe it could be added as part of MOTD in all of the arenas ? This would help out with getting things more active in improving people new to AH skills.
Sorry folks didn't mean to let all of my thoughts out in this thread and I hope that I do not offend anyone. Sometimes I get just as frustrated as many of us do at times over the overall picture of a game that I really enjoy and love. other than I few disappointments in the state of game play I am very happy to be back.
let the flames and slams begin :devil

Don't forget that if there's a WWI arena the next evil con mission could have Sopwith Camels with R2800-18W engines with a two-stage superchargers and 2x Hizookas. Snoopy never had it so good.
