I never had any problems with the MTW disc...do you have another drive or comp you can use to test it?

Did you remember to put it in your DVD-ROM drive, not the CD-ROM drive?

That's what I was going to ask. It's probably a DVD-rom and not a CD-rom.

It is a DVD-ROM, I have the whole series.

I have a dvd drive, however i believe its damaged.  I had many viruses on my computer and it took me almost 6 months to get it back up and running.  But the DVD-rom isnt working.  Does anyone have any ideas on how i may be able to get it fixed??

I know its a dvd drive because i used to watch dvds on it! lol

It needs to be a DVD-ROM, not just a DVD player. Theres a difference.

Most games that come out now are DVD-ROM format, not CD-ROM. They play faster and hold much more information.

BUMP:

Can anyone tell me if that is a dvd-rom drive??

Yes that drive should work. HOWEVER if the drive will not read this disc try another DVD and see if it reads that one. If not then return the MTW2 disc and start over. If the other does read then go to nearest computer shop/retail store that sells internal drives and buy one for anywhere from $20-$50 dollars for a patch up DVD drive.

well since it failed AFTER you got all the viruses it "might" be possible to reinstall the DVD-Rom.
Did you buy this pc with all the drives ect built in? OR did you piece it together?
The reason I ask is if your going to reinstall the DVD-Rom you will need to reinstall the drivers and software for it.
If you dont have the installation discs then you "might" find them on the net.
As mentioned already you will probably be better off just buying a new one. All depends on how comfortable you are manualy installing hardware and software

No i got it as is from Aaron's rental.  So if i found the installation disc, it might fix it for me?  Or would it just be easier to buy a new one.  Ive installed graphics cards before on my other computers.  So im not too concerned about something like this if i need to replace it.

And crazy, yes it is a Dell....piece of crap! lol

well, right click my computer then properties then click on the hardware tab.
then click on device manager. once you have that open click on DVD.CD drives and see if its listed. If it isn't up at the top of the window click on actions, then check for hardware changes. Basically your wanting to reinstall the DVD drive like its a new one. If it is there then click on the update driver and see if that works. if not let me know, there are other ways to try fixing your problem

If you got the one with the expansion pack included, all patches are up to date AFAIK. Every one that I can find online just brings it in line with the Gold release, nothing new (officially) since then.

kinda off topic anyone getting Empire: Total War?

Looks great, new engine, naval battles, structures can be garrisoned, troops can take cover, even multiplayer campaign

I'll probably pick it up when they've got all the bugs worked out.  Should be around 2015 or so, if they keep going the way they've been going.

I wanna get it, but all depends on my computer....

so back on track, anyone have any ideas whats up?? Should i look for the disc and try to reinstall it? Or should i just buy a new dvd-rom??

I'd suggest you try it on someone else's DVD-ROM first just to make sure you didn't get a bad disk, but it dounds to me like you need a new DVD-ROM drive. If its saying its installed properly but it still won't run, you've got trouble somewhere.

i agree with treize. try it on someone elses dvd-rom and see if it works. If it does then your probably better off just getting a new dvd drive and installing it

Ok cool, thanks for all your help guys!!

How much do DVD roms usually cost??

Not to much, about $30-50 for a cheapy. Check out newegg.com for some pricing. And I agree with the others. I'd bet dollars to donuts it's your drive and not the game.
