I gotta ask, why do you have a bottle of fingernail paint remover on your desk?
By the looks of it, you are in your late 20's to 30's, you have 3 kids and are in desperate need of a new mouse pad before you get another coffee refill. :)
-
Not as an elaborate a controller set up as the rest of you, but definatly the most comforatble "captains" chair hehe

I see must people use the same joystick, what type of peddles are those bearkats?
-
Well I just finished cleaning the area up so you can't really call it a pigpen, but here it is.

Still a work in process but I am getting closer to completion.

Mine is the same as my pic, except for I use a CH Fighterstick now. I'll complete the CH "trifecta" with a throttle sometime this Spring.

I'm gonna guess you're asking me since I have a bit on Halo shtuff. :)
If I had something better than Satellite Internet and owned an Xbox 360, I would. I only play Halo on PC, except when a friend visits with the system/game. The hard part is getting an Xbox, so much money goes to this PC. :D

This is just before AH went widescreen. Nothing else has changed though.
Like that hitech phone? Bought that in about 1980. Keyboard is almost that old too.

that is a beautiful moniter
i'm still winning with the most comfortable cockpit :D
I don't know about that, mine has an 8-way powered seat from a Cordoba :D
oh and my desktop has changed too, its now the logo for the new Star Trek movie coming out.
last thing, Vulcans "monitor" is that set of glasses just in front of his keyboard (3-d glasses)
-
I wanted the 3D glasses too but my eyes are too old and cannot adjust to short range anymore. :frown:
So I got a big bright LCD monitor to kill the rest of my eyes.
-
I am impressed with the setup with the 2 kids Although dosnt tht cause wars?
And i love the sim pits
-

It's the equivilant of a 60" monitor at 3 feet.
It'll be interesting with the pickup in stereo 3d in theatres and for tv's coming soon if more people start playing AH in 3D. Playing AH in 3D is like going from a black and white tv to a colour tv.

I want to know where you got that cockpit setup...... the only one I can find is a F16 replica and costs like 10 grand (last I checked a few years ago) and Ive got bonus money from reenlisting to spend, plus with my upcoming deployment, even more money.. I also have a "very understanding wife" kind of...... she'd rather me be home and playing games than out hunting bear or moose in Alaska or little brown dudes in the sandbox

Some of you people are making my OCD go into overload :O

Designed and built it myself. Cost about $200 and took around 6 weeks.....if I remember right. It was a couple of years ago, and the memory isn't the best. It has changed a bit over the years. I should take a new picture or two and post them.

Stoliman, that's only about 1/3 of the total collection, the rest are up-stairs in what used to be my office.

Granted, some of them on the right are work related, but that's 85% aviation related.

I cleaned this up for the last pic a few months / year ago.....
same holds true, but more beer cans.

Sir Francis, Love that desk! :salute
Do you know what year it was made or it's history?
Thx! :salute
I guess, around 1950. I bought it at a garage sale for around 10 $ :D
-
OK, a couple of new pictures.
A little wear and tear on it now. Keyboard was moved to lower shelf to make it easier to type. 21" LCD now instead of the big old CRT. Camera so I can take action shots for all those chicks who dig virtual fighter jocks :D and the little shelves that were added.... right side under camera is for the mouse when the shelf is closed, and the left one hold 2 beverages.
After I removed the CRT I had a lot of room under the "windscreen" so I cut a door in the side and put my printer in there. When the door is closed you have to look twice to see it :)

HeHe! That be true Sik1. I started with a 50" over 5 years ago, then 58", and now 60". If I live long enough I am gonna need a 100". :) I think 42" would be too small fom my chair 8' away but should be perfect for your setup. It is looking great even if it does kinda resemble a Dentist's chair. :lol
What did you do with that great looking simpit you were working on a couple years ago?

As a matter of fact Mr. Bird and his wife joined my wife and I (and one other couple) for dinner just after Christmas.
Great evening. He's doing really really well and was really happy to *see* Red's drawing up there. We had him and his wife to the house before dinner so they could see all the changes we made to their former house.
I never ended up changing the name of the house. I had put up two knights helmets with lights inside them in anticipation of that, but they really didn't suit the house and when they rusted, which I knew they would, the helmets made a mess of the pillars. I got rid of 'em and just put some traditional lights up instead.
We kept the old name "La Pajarera" which mean avairy in Spanish (a reference to Mr. Bird obviously) and when people ask the significance of the name I have a few great stories to tell.
Thanks for asking about him though...I will tell him you did so the next time I see him.

That is great to hear that he is still enjoying life ... he was quite the English "gentleman" and absolutely riveting to listen to ... and he was proud as a peacock to be the center of attention at that con (which he well deserved).
Oh ... I can still taste that rum too ... was the best I have ever had ... to this very day.

-
Why? :huh
I dunno, maybe becaue he enjoys it!
For those who don't know, tunes is the consummate
bomber pilot and with his setup he has his own
bomber squadron to do with what he pleases.
There is no right or wrong way to play the game.
The ultimate goal is to have fun. :)
-
Back in Early 07, while I was with LCA, tunes would carry tunes 2-4 in Lancs, while he (tunes) flew a typhoon. He would bomb and be a fighter pilot all at once... A many of bases have been taken that way.
-
Why? :huh
Hey as long as he works for his $$$ who cares what he does with it.
If he doesn't then this would be a glaring reason why we need welfare reform but that's another topic not for these boards! :)

Update :
Just got the Matrox Triple head. Also got 2 19" Samsungs to go along with my old 24" one. Got a Ergotron stand which holds all 3 monitors while clearing out the desk quite a bit. All 3 monitors can also be swiveled into portrait or landscape, and the stand will let you tilt/raise/lower all monitors in unison. I mounted the 19s overlapping the 24 instead of flush side by side. This eliminates a lot of thick bezel that my old 24 has.
Im running on a 8800GT. Im running AH in 4032 x 900 with a 145 degree angle.

The screenshots dont do it justice - but I feel like Ive lost very little in the vertical for the gain in the horizontal - the 145 angle is the key. Framerate has taken no hit, and I run in high res with all the textures preloaded.

That's what I thought (<---X52 user), but after looking again, I would suspect that he just moves the joystick to his lap ( :uhoh) and leaves the throttle in place. (or I'm just an idiot after a very long day)

Haha only seen a desk like that once, and that was at my grandmother's house. Isn't it an old sewing machine?
hehe Yup, But it also has a nice foot rest, that i can move around. I actually do use all three sticks though. The Avaitor extreme right i use those toggle switches for modes, and other functions programmed in. I only use the keyboard for typing. The Saitek 290 Left hand is my rudder, and primary flight controls, and i use that hat switch for manual trim. The combat Stick Primary Right hand is X and Y and is set up for views, and weapons, and check 6. It actually works well for me. Also I have it setup for Bombers, where i can change just one engine rpm or throttle seperatly if I wanted to. In case one engine is damaged, I can tune it b4 it fails.

Im not sure if I would call mine a pigpen per say but here ya go. :)

hmmmmm 2 comps.... duel account??? :lol
-
Here is mine complete with a little of my daugter's touches and my wife's and of course my stick set up. The reason for 2 sticks though is the aileron and rudder are shot on the Logitech but the Saitek does not have enough buttons on it for me. So I use the Logitech as a throttle and for the buttons, at least until I can get a X52 which will work on the removeable set up that is there now.

Thanks guys. Trust me, it really only adds to the immersion effect, at least for me. Can't say it's done much to improve my flying (maybe even made it worse... SA overload sometimes). But I really love it. Just flying around with all that view around me is visually stunning sometimes, especially with 2.14 now. It took a while to acquire the extra screens, then put it all together with freeware for the head-tracking and the triple-head software. Actually I did most of it on a tight budget over time,
Dell XPS 730, (2.8 ghz RAM)
24" Dell main monitor
2X 22" side monitors (Getting about 5408x1200 resolution right now)
Cougar HOTAS (stick's on a homemade platform) + CH Pro Pedals (the pedals are from 1995, used them since my AW days, :rock).
Head tracking via a modified MS Lifecam Vx 6000 webcam + FreeTrack + a TrackIR LED pro-clip
Triple-head rendering via SoftTH 1.08, passed through an ATI 4890 (primary) and a GE 7900 GTX card (secondary)
If you're planning to do this, be mindful of the power requirements and what your house's electrical circuits can take. Don't overload your circuit breakers. Also, 3 screens, plus room lights and other gear, builds up heat, so consider your ventilation options for the area you'll have your rig in.
FWIW,

Just be lucky you live in the US so you don't have to pay the ridiculous prices people in the UK have to pay for CH gear. I pretty much had to pay almost double the price tag 2 years ago for my whole CH setup.

About £300 when the exchange rate was just around £0.60 to a $1. So $570 for the complete 3 part setup; Combatstick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals.
