So i see what HTC has been up to, i just wanted to know will it take more effect, on a person who can barely run AH alone as it is, if they do the terrain update?

Unless someone from HTC responds, everyone else would just be guessing.

Like any graphics update it's going to put a some more strain on your computers hardware, but Aces High has never been that computer intensive. Even the lower end video cards like an 8600 will run the game flawlessly so long as you have a decent CPU to back it up and about 2GB of RAM.
-
Like AirFlyer stated it will require more of your system, but in AHII case the requirements will be more towards the CPU then the GPU. If your system is not performing with the game now, you may want to turn some of the options down for a better frame rate such as the High Res pack. In the Video Setting, on the Clipboard when you login, you can try these
"Video Resolution": Lower this
"Max Texture Size": Lower this
Inside the game click OPTIONS then GRAPHIC DETAIL place an [X] Disable other planes skins and adjust other setting to get a good game experience and playable as you see it.
A copy of your DirectX (click start, run, and type dxdiag) check the number of processes that are running on your rig, there maybe some apps running that are not needed.
I am sure others have idea also that could help.

Here... I posted this in the Help and Training Forum last week:
Until last March I played in the MA's on:
Dell Dimension XPS-T600
PIII 600
512 mb PC100 SRAM
32 mb G-Force MX-440SE
Soundblaster Live! Value
Windows 98SE
I'd turned ground detail to low and max visibility to 3 miles with 512 textures and no custom skins. My FPS were normally in the 15-25 range but would drop under 10 around many buff formations or in low lying fog. They'd run 35 FPS in blue sky with one or two cons around. Fires, smoke, etc. didn't seem to hurt my frame rates.
Some people will tell you that those frame rates are unplayable but it seemed smooth to me since I had no other point of reference.
First make sure your machine is clean:
*Scan your computer for viruses, spyware, adware, etc.
*Remove any unused applications.
*Turn off any un-needed background applications (auto-updaters, etc.) in Task Manager or Services depending on your version of Windows.
*Clear out your Internet browser cache, recycling bin, downloaded program files, Windows Temp folder, etc. using Disc Cleanup (if you've changed the default location for your browser cache you may have to clear it through your browser. You can also manually delete anything in the Windows Temp folder).
*Run Scandisk to make sure you don't have file problems or bad drive sectors.
*Run Disc Defragmenter.
*Before you log into the game turn off any anti-spyware, anti-adware, anti-virus and firewall programs.
Now log into the MA's and have fun. If you're still having trouble run 256 textures.
You may still find situations you'll want to avoid that may over-tax your system but you'll quickly learn what they are.
If that old dinosaur computer listed above can play in the mains any computer can do it.

ok i understand about half, no maybe 75% of what was said, i have a dell dimension 2400, ill post the info, tell me what i need, i already know i need more RAM than 256MB! it makes want to through this junk out the window

Here's the tech specs on your machine:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/specs.htm
You have onboard sound and video and your PSU is only 200-250 watts with, I'm sure, minimal amps available.
Frankly, it's not worthwhile to try to upgrade that machine. If you want a small bump in performance put in 1 Gb of RAM (2x 512K sticks) which is the max your motherboard supports (Here's a bunch of choices... $25-40: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+1052107965+1052308476&Configurator=&Subcategory=147&description=&Ntk=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=).
Otherwise save your money for a new machine and follow my tips above to get the most out of this one in the meantime.

Can't find DDR? Please! You can still buy EDO Ram!

Agreed.

i wish, not most people have that kind of money, well considering my age
-
Thus the reason for saving your money. I'm pretty sure TilDeath could stick together a half-decent, "modern" computer for you for around $500. That computer would still be more reliable and stronger than most of what you could get from popular companies for around the same price.
-

Then you might need to approach it like this: Mom, Dad, you know I love you.....no, she isn't pregnant.....and to keep it that way, I'll need to get this new, custom built computer to occupy my time. Well, what do you think.....?
-
AirFlyer, you consider an 8600 as a "lower end video card"? Heck, I'll take one any day. Check this out though. I have a 7600 256mb and 2 gigs of RAM. With 48-50 processes running, I run AH with hi res and all graphics sliders to full and always have a steady 75 fps, which is my screen refresh rate. I have an AMD 5000+ dual core processer(s), about 2 years old. I really think AH just runs differently on everyone's machine. I know peeps with half the processes running and newer vid cards that get 20-30 less fps than what I get. Not bragging, I consider myself lucky, as my old system, no matter what I upgraded, would only get 20-40 fps max. I just think each machine is its own beast.

haha nice
when mayday fair comes along, i should make a good 1400 maybe 25% will go to my dad, that should get me a decent computer

Don't mind that AirFlyer guy, he is spoiled by his GeForce 8800. :D
I still laugh that my 7900GS runs so well with every game I own, although I do plan to upgrade to a 9800GTX/GTX+ in a few months.
I take my 7900 over an 8600 anyday, When I bought it, it was said to perform better than the 8600 aside from Shaders.

??????????? I think as far as overclocking the 7900 is better but the avg. user does not overclock. Stock, the cards are equal but the 7900 does not support directX10. That may be an disadvanatge but non the less, both cards are becoming outdated.

It depends on what 7900 you have and what 8600 you have. There's the 7900 GS, GT, and GTX. There's a 8600 GT and GTS (256mb and 512mb). Depending on the game and settings, the 8600's flavors are going to be on par or are going to beat the 7900's.

From what I read on Tomshardware, the 7900GS ranks about the same as the 8600GTS (according to test back then), and the higher-end 7900s were ranked a bit above the 8600s. Never said it was a large difference, but just going by what I have read.
