Title: Drunk Raisins for Arthritis Pain???
Post by: Ghosth on January 28, 2009, 07:11:50 AM
My wife Cindy recently bought one of those home remedy books from ebay.
And of course I have been teasing her a bit about it. One of the "recipes" in there was for arthritis.

Take Golden raisins, put them in a bowl, cover them with Gin, let them sit for a week stirring once a day.
Eat 9 of these raisins a day to relieve Arthritis joint pain.

Well after walking by and seeing them sitting there slowly getting drunk, I thought I better taste a couple of these raisins.
To see if Cindy is even going to be able to eat them. So I filched 4, and went on my way. Next day I'm passing the bowl and think, you know those raisins were pretty good, lets have a few more. So I grabbed 6 and munched. The next morning I wake up, no sore hip, no sore shoulders.
How come I feel 5 years younger today?

So yesterday I ate 8 raisins, today it was the full 9. And I'm telling Cindy, she better start eating those guys if she wants any left. "WHAT, you've been stealing my raisins!" Well yeah, "So do they work?" Emmm, well thats the wierd part. Yeah, they work.

Now I've been pretty much a 1 Aleeve a day guy, (bad days are 2) for a few years now.
But I haven't taken any pain meds for 4 days now. My hip hasn't "twinged" going up or down stairs for 3 days, and my shoulders don't wake up sore and cranky when I sleep on them wrong.

Ok so the rest of the stuff in that book may be crap. But if you have arthritis pain, get yourself a box of golden raisins and a bottle of gin. (My wife just bought the cheapest big bottle she could find) Get those raisins getting drunk and start eating up to 9 a day. (no more, just 9)

Then tell me if it helps!

Its the Drunk Raisin Revolution!

Reminds me of a time about 10 years ago I used to work in a hospital.
I had a job to do down in the O.R. area.
now anyone who goes into that area HAS to wear scrubs (the stuff you see doctors and nurses wearing)
So Im putting them on and I am overhearing several rather high end doctors talking about the flu and how they treat it at home.

The most common treatment.

Now keep in mind these are doctors and surgeons. they can get pretty much any kind of Meds they want just by scribbling on a peise of paper.

So what do they use when THEY are sick?
What is commonly referred to as "Jewish penicillin"

Chicken Soup

I LMAO'd over that one

I wonder if it's the raisins, the juniper berries (usually added to vodka, which in turn makes it Gin) or a combo of all together.  It's worth a shot.

I also wonder if it works for injury related arthritis?

I wouldn't mind leaving the weather forecasting up to the professionals  :aok

Ouch
Must be fun going through airport checkpoints - you gotta explain that injury - skiing?

Also - cherry Juice extract is supposed to help - they sell that in the health stores around here for arthritis.

No airport problems.

It's stainless steel, not titanium.  The Doctor thought because human bone grafts to titanium, it might bind up over the years and create more loss of motion than I already have.  I found the top Orthopedic Surgeon that I could find (as I wasn't footing the bill)  He actually had to start over and do it a second time as I was on the table, as the first device they tried didn't work as expected.  He said it was the hardest one, to date, in his 20 years doing it.

Long story short.

Me = 1986 Ford Ranger approaching expressway @ 45mph traveling straight in the Hammer lane.  Left turn lane on my left with SUV waiting for opportunity to turn.

Opponent = 1992 Full-size Chevy conversion van approaching from the opposite direction attempting to turn left across my double lane of traffic (probably didn't see me due to the SUV in the left hand lane(turning lane) next to me.  Her approximate speed  is 15-20 mph.

Reaction = Near-perfect Head-On collision at the line intersection of our direction of travel (if you want the closure rate and energy/physics equations involved, I'll work on them  Smiley   )

Result = No harm to other driver (Mexican, non-licensed, non-English speaking cleaning lady in a company van not insured by a "commercial" policy even though he had 8 vehicles insured under said policy)  but massive front-end damage.

I bent the steering wheel (yes I had a seat-belt on) probably causing my fracture(s), my engine came through the firewall to greet me, gas tank ruptured and I had to kick the windshield out to exit the vehicle because both doors were crunched back to the point where they wouldn't open, and I knew the dangers of moving but I SMELLED GAS!  I was sitting on the median when the rescue crew came and the truck looked like hell.  I was on the phone with my wife when I saw the fire fighters dragging the jaws-o-life to my truck.  I asked them what they were doing....   "We need to extract the body" was the response  WHOA!  I replied  "You're looking at it."

They thought I was dead.   :O

Also, if you have the stomach for it, here is a video of and ORIF (Open Reduction Internal Fixation) of the Distal Radius with Volar Plating  (not me in the video, but darn near the same exact thing)

Gives one a whole new outlook on the use of power tools   devil

The "K" wires have since been removed  (This happened in Dec '04' )

I have seen those same things being used in a hip replacement around 1992. One of the girls who was in the OR with me observing for a class called "Treatment and Prevention of Sports Related Injuries" passed out when they grabbed the cordless sawzall to start removing portions of the femur for the hip replacement. She was a little queasy when they made the big incisions across the pelvis and down the lateral portion of the upper thigh.

I've got quite a bit of metal inside me, so I know how irritating it can get with the pain and soreness it causes.

Going to Vegas in May.

Can't wait, and not just the partying..

It's a whole different world when the climate is warm and dry.  Not like here in Philly.

The pain just.......disappears, (almost).

No punch line, yes my wifes name really is Cindy (Cynthia to be precise) yes the raisins really do seem to make a difference.

Yes North Dakota and -20 is heck on old joints as well as damaged ones. VonMessa you should consider moving to Nevada, Arizona.  Warm, dry, stable weather.

Spazman "Best Choices from The People's Pharmacy"

The header for its Arthritis section reads
Get 1k units of Vit D daily         *****
Consider Certo and Grape juice  *****
Eat a diet rich in Selenium
Mediterranean diet
Try Gin drenched Raisins
Drink Pomegranate juice  ****
Asprin or Naproxen (Aleeve) for pain relief  (Both are good antinflammatory pain relievers)
Take Tumeric,  ****
Sip Vinegar with apple and grape juices,
Drink Cherry Juice,
Experiment with fish oil and green lipped mussels.  **

Milo, they are raisins, ie previously grapes, so you don't feed them wine. You soak them in Gin, cover them in gin actually, then leave it out to stew, marinate,  soak into the Raisins, evaporate, and do its thing. I don't know why it works. Frankly at this point I don't care. Weather system moving into the Dakota's today, yet my aching joints still are not aching this morning.

When I find something that works, I like to pass it on. When I find something that works this good, is low cost,  and might help a lot of other people, well it seemed like a natural for the O-club.

On Certo, it is a fruit pectin product used in making/canning jams and jellys.
Mix with  Grape juice, and keep in the fridge.  1 package Certo in 64 oz grape juice,   drink 6 - 8 oz daily) Because of its overall effectiveness and low cost it got a 5 star rating because it does triple duty. Relieving inflammation, increasing the flexibility of blood vessels, and lowering cholesterol. Don't take Statin drugs at the same time, they may not be absorbed well.

The drenched raisins got no rating because it doesn't work for everyone.

Did you have your drunk raisins this morning? :)

VonMessa you should consider moving to Nevada, Arizona.  Warm, dry, stable weather.

My wife would kill to live in Arizona.  One of her closest friends lives out there, and I've noticed the weather there is just as kind to my bones as we have been out there a few times, also.

My 87 y/o Grandfather lives with us (actually we moved in with him when my Grandmother passed away a few years ago) and I have 2 kids that are 8 and 10.  Moving Grandpop wouldn't be a good idea  (and he wouldn't do it anyhow, as he claims he is going to die in the very chair that he sits in everyday  :)   )   So.... it's going to be at least 10 years before we can consider it.

In the meantime, GO Eagles, and I'll start drowning some raisins   :aok

I will say that it seems fairly effective on abdominal cramps. With 3 daughters in the house we pretty much kept a bowl of soaking raisins in the fridge continually. I guess they're pretty nasty, we never had a problem with overconsumption but my ex and the girls all swear by them.
