So... what's the best plane for beginners?
-
Any and all, pick and plane and stick to it. I highly recommend you stop by the Training Arena and check out the training forums here on the boards. If you can I would even try to arrange some 1v1 time with a trainer or a vet willing to spend some time with you, it will make a world of diffrence.
-
There isn't. Pick a plane you like for it's history and stick with it.
-
I second what Husky said. You will learn more in 1 hour with a trainer compared to 1-2 weeks in the MAs on your own.

So... what's the best plane for beginners?
The spit 8 and spit 16 are about the easiest to fly, and fight with. Even a beginner can get kills with them, won't make it home with the kills, but thats a whole different lesson :D
The best advice is like other have said. Pick a plane you like and stick with it. Hunt for info on it, how it handles, its strenghts and its weaknesses. Learn everything you can about. Get with a trainer and have him help you with it. You WILL spend weeks if not months getting your butt handed to you in it, but in the long run you will learn a lot more about the game and how to play if you do it this way.

The Spit 8 is probably the easiest to get kills with. I find that anything short of an 8 kill sortie with the Spit 8 is a little light.
Good guns, good speed, turns very well, climbs very well and is quite forgiving.
The only thing that sucks about it is the roll rate. A bit of rudder helps, though.
Motherland is right about about picking a plane for its history and sticking with it, though. It's more rewarding that way.
I love 109s and fly them most of the time. I love everything about that aircraft.

You just like wearing the assless chaps and leather thong and you know it. :D
As others said don't fly what is "easy" fly find something that you like and stick with it.

no way! Youre dead on, I'm a 109 junkie too, although they take some getting used too, maybe not the best for fresh meat.
the 109s fly like a dream but most of them don't carry alot of ammo...although they would be a good first lesson on ammo conservation...
I love 'em so I'd suggest them

Most people jump into a Spit16 or P51 first, spit16 being the easiest to fly, P51 being the most well known. Then they transfer to the Lgay7 (LA7) when they get up to speed on things. Personally, I'd start in a Spit8.
-
Spit 8 or 9 is the best starter plane but if you pick it for the pro aspect like specializing in it You will get so many kills that you will love it
and in respect to Archias It isnt light if u dont rearm. spitty fire power needs its 20s If u just get 4 kills at a time thts a decent thing

P38 great noob plane! =)

190A-8 if you want to be a man. Monster plane.

Until the Spitcopters chase you down.

Welcome to the game.. Try a couple of different planes and stick to the one that seems easiest to do what feels most natural. Everyone flies differently.
-
Flame me later,....I direct a newb to the niki, or spit....just to get in the air with some ammo, have some fun, Thats what was recommended to me, So of course I jumped in a 190. :aok

Welcome to hell.

Welcome to the game. As far as plane type, pick something that interests you, one you enjoy flying for whatever reason. As mentioned, some planes are a bit more forgiving, but I don't think that is a good gauge as to what you should fly. Having said that, some planes, like the 109k can be awesome....however only so when the driver can tap into some of the planes abilties that aren't always so evident. There is generally a high learning curve, so I would suggest seeking out a trainer, they have years of experience and will exponentially increase your ability to fly whatever plane you choose more effectively. spit16/la7 are very good planes. They are fast, have good guns, can turn well, and climb well. While they have many strengths, maybe not the best to learn with as you can really spoil yourself. Then again, some other planes are more difficult to fly which may prove a bit too frustrating for the newer player. Ask around for planes abilities, find what you like... a couple more
p38j/l- jack of all trades, not an awesome climber, not an awesome turner, but does both ok. Big target, but great guns.
p51- very fast, not so great climber without speed. good guns...so-so turning plane for the inexperienced.
Hurricane- slow, but great turning plane and great guns. doesn't climb so well
Typhoon- awesome guns, fast, poor turner.
190- fast, great guns, poor turner, best roll rate
109f- good turner, ok guns, good climber
109k- awesome climbing plane, fast, awesome guns (but takes alot of practice to aim), can fight slow but again, will take alot of practice.
just a quick list with quick summary.

I'd make a date with a trainer and then follow his direction. And he'll probably direct you to one of the Spits. Get your radio vox up and spend some time in the training arena.
And welcome.

I agree.... take a spit first and gain some confidence on the controls. Leave stall limiter off it only slows down your ability to learn the aircraft. When your comfortable in that bird then is the time to move on to an aircraft that takes more skill to learn.

B-17 :aok

B-17 :aok
100% fuel :aok

My first plane was an F6F, pretty fun plane, gobs of ammo, good armament, tough, turns fairly well, and will teach you a lot about energy retention!
P-51D is pretty popular, but not the easiest plane to fly... Once you get put in a disadvantage, it is quite the uphill battle, particularly for beginners.
If you start with the Spitfire, don't let it get to your head. The worst is when a new pilot gets kills in a Spitfire and then thinks he's god... I did the same thing... :(
I agree with everyone here though, pick a plane you like, and stick to it! Or fly each and every one of them once, and find out which on you like! :aok
-
Ki-61- It will teach you about picking your fights wisely. It doesn't have the best engine, and the guns seem a bit weird at first, but it has great handling at almost all speeds (At the sound barrier, prepare to lose parts ;D) and keep your altitude/energy up unless you know you can get a good shot in.
Also, when fighting the Spits, remember that they have wings of brittle pasta.
-
I'd recommend a Spitfire Mk VIII or Spitfire Mk XVI to start out in. I think that these are the best for new players as they turn very well, handle well, and have decent guns. Once you get some experience in one of these, then you can move on to whatever other planes interest you.
-
Hello and welcome. :)
If you do decide to try out the spits then dont stay in them for too many hours as they will only spoil you and make you think you are better than you are. Training arena is a very good place to go if you want some basic advice to start with.
-
Jeeps....they kinda bank hard, but in a dive they are sweet.

I think you missed something there mate, I was saying that the Spit's armament is good enough to allow you to come away from a fight with 8 kills quite comfortably. I am useless with the Spit's gun set-up, being used to German cannons and the 30mm, and I still manage to muddle my way through a fight and still have enough for 8+ kills.
Having said that, it doesn't have a huge amount of cannon ammo so it will teach you to conserve ammo which will make you a better marksman.
Basically, the Spit 8 is a good platform to learn on.
I started in the 109G-14 and then moved onto the Fw 190 series for a while before ending up back in 109s primarily. This influenced the way I fly very strongly. I find American aircraft very difficult to have any real success in as they lack all of the attributes that set the 109 and 190s apart from the rest of the plane set. P-51s, for example, require a very, very different style of fighting. So much so, in-fact, that when my squad rolls P-51s for a fighter sweep, I roll a Fw 190 D9 because I am completely useless in the 51. In the Dora I can still be a useful wingman and not find myself in trouble after the third merge. :lol
That's what I find, anyway. The fundamental difference between German and US aircraft seems to be the answer to the question "What do you do when in trouble?" In the 109 in particular and German aircraft in general the answer is almost always "Go up." In American aircraft this gets you killed. Unless you're in a P38, perhaps, but then you'll just get killed regardless of what you do. :lol

I'm fairly new myself. (2 months now playing.)
I dabbled a bit before dedicating my flight time to Zeros. For a month, to fight the overabundance of spitfires lol.
Recently I've switched to the 190-A5. I love it.
Riceball.

Wildcat, F4F.. Slow, But turns on a dime, good guns, and double tuff...

B-17 :aok
Thanks for the laugh. I needed one. :rofl :aok

BF.109
Use it and practice BnZ, if you have a squadie you fly with regularly practice drag and bag. Get used to shooting with the 20mm then move to the 30mm Mk108 of the G and K variant. It does not take alot of 30mm to kill.

Welcome to AH
As many others have said. I suggest picking the aircraft that interests you in real life (assuming it's in game) and learning it. Gives ya a touch of pride
