Can you set up AH on a primary monitor, and surf on the other so that I don't loose comms while alt tabbing out?
-
I run 2 computers...same as others..I am sure you can run 2 monitors with right gear and software, on same comp. It will draw a lot of resources.

Problem I've always have had is that when you have an .exe like AH up on one of the monitors the mouse doesn't like to go over to the other screen.
-
To be able to play a game with Aces High on Monitor A and surf on Monitor B may not be possible. You can, yes, run AH on Monitor A and have a window open on Monitor B, but to surf on B you need to have your mouse not focus on AH, thus leave a Game Window when it has focus. I have never heard of a program allowing the Mouse to leave a focused game, but it may be possible.
So while AH is Focused, I know of no way to have the cursor leave that Focus. Someone may know a way, in which case I would be happy as well. :D
Also, by "Focused" I am referring to being the opened window, or on top window.

No.
You have to alt tab or hope that HiTech programs windowed mode with global sound (that plays out of focus).
-
I just run two computers.

Playing and surfing is a very bad idea, all those warp drive players are a testament to that.
-
I'm like Getback, rather than try to get 2 monitors to work I just rotate 90 degrees and bring up my wifes computer.
Its about 2 feet away when I'm flying, so its handy and convenient.

I use a kvm switch and run one monitor. Saves room in my office. Of course I have to make sure no cons are nearby.

Yea if you've got a bad connection. Open a couple of webpages while playing isn't really gonna have much of an impact on a decent system and connection.

Webpages no, browsing for youtube / downloading software usually will.

Doesn't effect my connection. If you've got a mediocre broadband connection like 512k with poor upload then sure.

If you download stuff it will eat up all your available bandwith and will cause problems for gaming. Only if the sending address can't send data fast enough your connection doesn't get saturated with the traffic.
I'm on a 8/1 Mbit connection and AH starts to stutter if I download a linux distro on the background at full speed.

The solution is obviously more linux! Something like IPcop or ClarkConnect would let you assign priorities to packets across various ports/applications. I can download torrents on my computer giving them half my available bandwidth and my ping will not vary more than 5-10ms beyond what it would be w/o downloading.

My router has qos etc. profiling available but configuring the ports would be a trouble (I don't even know all the ports AH requires) and otoh I don't want to limit any portion of the bandwith when I want to use it.

If you want just pick up a cheapo desktop tower...you can get one to run browsing for 100 or 200 bucks normally.

Well I do download things from time to time. If I'm downloading something I'll pause it if I am going to fly.
Then give it a few minutes to clear up the connection. If my wife is downloading music, I won't try to fly, although GV ussually isn't a problem.
I'll do a full reboot if I'm going to fly FSO, just to make sure there are no problems.
And no I don't share, and I don't leave P2P programs up.

I just mean between missions with my squadron and such, I like to read news and stuff like that. I don't download and such, and I do it anyway, but I have to alt tab out, which cuts communications with the guys over AH.
