I would like to see the enemy Icon moved in from 6k to 1k... any intelligent thoughts on this?

Here is an icon at 1.3k (less than a mile) away.

What type of plane is it? Can you tell if it's friendly or enemy?
Now, think about driving down a highway. Can you tell a Highway Patrol car from a mile away? I think most people would say yes. Is it realistic to not be able to tell what type of plane or if it's friend or foe from less distance than that? I personally don't think so. While I do think there are adjustments that could make our system more realistic, eliminating icons or making them appear at a ridiculously close range isn't the solution.

Because chasing a dot for 50 miles only to find it was a friendly running from a dot is fun, amiright?

Well most of the time I can tell if it is an enemy by the Dar... I just think it would be more fun not knowing what type of enemy plane it is untill you get close and it would also keep all The enemy's in a 6k radius from trying to chase your perk down.

Two things wrong with that:
1. Unless you hug your ack all the time, you spend most of your time outside the dot-dar.
2. With the exception of the jets/rockets, perk planes aren't distinguished from their non-perked cousins until you are 800 yards away.
Now, there's lots of variables that go into identifying something. Size, view angle, pilot's eyesight, etc etc. A P-38 from the top is easily identifiable. A P-38 from the side provides a smaller profile than many single-seat fighters. I wouldn't mind some type of gradually increasing ID such as an icon showing single / twin / 4 engine gradually resolving into inline / radial engine(s), then resolving into a plane type. You would still have to identify friend vs foe early on (particularly in the uncontrolled MA environment) but it would still give a bit more suspense to the encounter.

But most of the time you are still able to identify an enemy. If you have a con, but no corresponding green dot on your map, it's an enemy, as friendly cons outside base radar range do always show on map. Does work quite well, unless you're flying in a really crowded furball area. ;)

And it doesn't work at all for a country who's HQ has been taken out.

Which is fortunately quite rare :)
