That'll make ya spill your coffee. :lol

Ouch. That was rather stupid.

Isn't there usually a launch alarm sounded before firing?
Or maybe the general quarters order didn't apply to him?
-
Haha maybe he was a press photographer or journalist completely out of the loop. :D

I've seen almost the exact same view as that guy did. Whenever we did a live fire, the whole ship knew about it, and everyone who wasn't actually at their position was on deck to watch the big flashbang go off. My buddies and I were crowded in the Helo Hanger jockeying for position. I'd forgotten my mickey mouse ears. Holy crap that was THE loudest thing I've ever heard. I'm surprised I don't have tinnitus from that day lol.
Anyhow, yeah, that guy knew exactly what he was doing if you ask me. I bet he made some money off of it too.

As Long as you aren't a complete moron, there's no way that you don't know there is a live fire-ex going on. It's posted in the plan of the day and for a while right up until launch, the word is passed over the 1mc repeatedly that the weather decks are secured due to live firing. (heard it a thousand times) Unless this dude just rolled out of his rack to go to the smoke deck and didn't hear the words passed...he's a moron.
And btw, that little zerp you hear just before birds away is the guy filming getting radiated by that other ship's 49 radar. Kinda makes you wonder how any of us can still have kids.

Was that an SM? The Shiloh is a Tico aint it? Aegis? So a SM-3 test? I cant tell, I wasnt a navy guy. The first missile was smaller then the 2nd and that ship carries about all our USN missiles in inventory.
-
Could it be a SAM followed by a Ship-to-Ship missile? Just a guess.
-
Both were more than likely SM-2's. The only other thing that comes off the rail that fast is an SM-3 but Lake Erie(my old boat) was the only SM-3 test platform back in '01. That was probably a vandal-ex somewhere in either SoCal or HI. It's where they launch drones and then take them out with SM-2's. Can't tell if the firing ship is the Shiloh or the one the Chief is standing on is. But yes the one firing is a Tico also.
-
don't know if you all saw but he sure did beat feet to the door after the first missile launched a few seconds the second one.

FAIL! :lol
