Title: Game Name Change vs. BBS Name
Post by: WarTooth on February 02, 2009, 12:10:21 PM
Hello,

Though I hope to not make regular changes of my name, my in-game name has changed and I was wondering what my options are to align my BBS name?

Thanks for your advice,

WT

Options are:  Put your game ID in your signature.  Create a new account.  Or email support and request that they change your bbs username for you (I'd suggest not attempting that today when there is a backlog of weekend email and outage complaints).

Skuzzy told me he really doesn't like changing BBS names. Honestly, make it easy on him and just make a new account.

I changed my game name after two weeks. It was originally Xasthur but when I decided to subscribe a while after the initial two weeks I decided to try something different after being met with two many expressions like this:  :huh when my game name was Xasthur.

The pronunciation of the name escaped too many people and I can understand how annoying that it is. I hate it when I have to double-take people's names to figure how to bloody say it.

I changed my game name to Archaius which, in hindsight, was probably not the best choice given the amount of different pronunciations I get on that one. I get "Ar-key-us" and "Arch-ee-us" a lot when it should be "Ar-kay-us".

I don't care though, I know they're talking to me.

Many end up just saying "Arch" or "Ark" which is great, it's nice and easy to say and type.

Just put your in-game tag in your BBS signature or avatar and people will know who you are.

A few people actually call me 'Xas' in-game, too, actually. So don't worry, people will put it all together.

< too easy.

(Oops, I thought my game tag was in my sig, I forgot I put it in my avatar instead)

Seriously?? :huh I thought that was simple grammar, but isn't that one of the Pokemon?

(edit: Scratch that, the Pokemon is Arceus)

Pokemon? Most certainly not.  :lol

The intended meaning of my username is somewhat convoluted and vague. It was not really supposed to be easily identified.

The etymology of its components are:

Quote
arch (adj.)
1547, "chief, principal," from prefix arch- (from Gk. arkhos "chief;" see archon); used in 12c. archangel, etc., but extended to so many derogatory uses (arch-rogue, arch-knave, etc.) that it acquired a meaning of "roguish, mischievous,"

Quote
archaic
1832, originally of words no longer in use, from Fr. archaique, ult. from Gk. arkhaikos "old-fashioned," from arkhaios "ancient" (see Archaean). Archaism "an archaic word or expression" is attested from 1748.

Quote
Sirius
from Gk. Seirios, lit. "scorching".

Make of that what you will. Don't over-think it, though, it's not intended to be overly cryptic or loaded.
