I don't know what program you are using but, if your using photoshop you may want to create a clipping path around the plane so you can apply different fx to the foreground/background. This may help you retain more detail in the shadows on the plane while crushing the blacks. Also you could blur the background a little to simulate some depth of field. Bottom line, clipping path = more editing options. You may also want to try using "color to transparent" gradients (like gradient photo filters) for the sky and ground(behind the clipped plane to make the area around the plane brighter than the rest of the image centering the eye (yours and mine) on the plane.

If you're refering to kculon talking about 'clipping path', then you're not on the right page.
Clipping and cropping are very different.
