Title: Wings of Power 3
Post by: Chalenge on February 03, 2009, 03:18:19 PM
The P47 Thunderbolt (http://www.a2asimulations.com/p47_razorback.html) and its Accusim update were just released. Check the site for videos and other details.

I think the P51 is next but Im on the fence considering this one.

Been looking at those planes and wonder if it is possible to use a FS2004 aircraft in FSX?

IIRC you can.

And from that video on their site...boy I wish AH clouds looked remotely close to that good.

You can use FS2004 aircraft with FSX, but some of the features you see in FS2004 may not work in FSX.

Check around some of the sites for FS aircraft, many times you can find an "update" that may help getting functions working in FSX.

Will dig thru my files as I have several links for adding FS9 airframes to FSX...................

Mostly with 2004 aircraft its just a matter of putting them in the right folder but every now and then you have to make a change to some glass textures (mostly canopies) or add alpha to a texture for beacons and that sort of thing. The rain animations do not always work but in the case of Wings of Power II aircraft I got not only the planes to work but the canopy rain effects also. I think the only problem airplane of the bunch I ran into was the P51H.

Okay, which files go into what folders? Anyone know specifically what to do? Been oogling a few of the planes for FS2004 which aren't available for FSX for quite some time now...

Install it into 2004 like normal and then move the entire folder to [fsx folder]\simobjects\aircraft

Some airplanes also require hacking the panel file so the dash displays at your resolution. I believe there is a post on AVSIM on how to go about that and PC Pilot may have an article on migrating also. Ill have another look after flying tonight.

Well... I don't have FS2004. What do I do? Went ahead and bought a few planes for FS2004 and they are .zip files. So you just extract these files right, then put it all into the aircraft folder?

That should work. If you see an effects folder then put that in the effects folder. Anything in the aircraft folder is installed as I described before. Gauges in gauges folder... etc.

Already have quite a few of their FSX aircraft and the quality is outstanding! It's too bad you can't actually fight anyone in this sim. I guess you can do some mock fights but without guns it stays there. That is sad.

Thanks Chalenge I'll try it as you suggested. Will have to endure a reinstall of FSX first though, after a HDD failure around christmas.

Bummer, the zip files only contain a exe file. I may not be able to install this. :(

Did you try? Otherwise there is always buying FS9 (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-2004-Century-Pc/dp/B000096L71/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1233737175&sr=8-1).

Yeah... may have to do that. Speaking of other games is CFS3 worth buying? I mean, is the flight model worth anything or is it like flying a wet sponge and what about the missions? Graphics is secondary I mean hey, we're playing Aces High here.  :D

I have played it for years and it's been worth it.  Seeing as it's in the bargain bin at walmart for $10 now, it's totally worth it.

The WoP3 P-47 Gabreski repaint (http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=134276) is on AVSIM now.

If the file is in .zip format and actually an executable file, run the setup and have it install into a temp folder. Then move the files.
