Title: Help Idea For All Countries....descriptiveness
Post by: ROX on February 03, 2009, 05:03:25 PM
I can't speak for other countries, but every day in game the knights are bombarded by completely useless information.  It got me thinking that it's probably a universal problem in the game.

"There's a 262!!"

"I see a Tiger!!"

"Wow...3 jugs!"

Here's how to turn absolutely worthless information into something usefull--provided your information is indeed correct:

"There's a 262 at 10K inbound to the base from the northeast with LOTS of E!"

"There's a tiger in the town, on the little rise, directly under the shattered water tower!"

"There are 3 heavy jugs at 12K due north of A8...might be here to pork!"

Other worthless runner's up:

"There's a jeep under the tree!!"    :rofl

"gv's in the woods!!"     :rofl

Communication is a wonderful thing if it has the small details required to make it useful.

If you are in a Panzer on the way to town at a base under siege, and a friendly flies over you and :20 seconds later calls out "I see a Tiger"....you'd sure as heck like to know the closest to accurate location of that Tiger, wouldn't you?

Even the run-of-the-mill "check 6" would mean a lot more with some details:

"Check 6"  Now...Bob has no clue if there is a 262 on him, a slower FM2, or some guy just hit the wrong key.

"FBBOB:  check 6!!!  LA& coming your way HOT co-alt!"  Now...Bob knows he better act fast or he's going to get chewed up by cannon fire....

"FBBOB:  Check 6 dude---there's a Zeke trying to climb up to you---but he's 3K out."  Now...Bob knows he has a second or two to finish off his prey before having to worry about the Zero.

By being descriptive about situations, and especially locations, you are not only helping yourself, but helping those around you.  It's not hard, and only takes another second or two to make sure others have the best information available.  Hope it helps  :salute

Good luck in the game. :aok

My favorite has always been watching a conversation unfold on country, but only seeing one half of it because the other party has vox and he's not in range for you to hear.  :lol

My answers are:

.squelch player name

and

Alt + F4

Like I've said, time and again, squelch two people on country and the text buffer practically dries up.

+1 for Rox

This topic brings up something I've always wondered about, given that this is something of a WWII, military-oriented, air combat simulation.

That is the lack of use of military Brevity Codes or the teaching/training of pilots in a radio call format.  With the very limited comm bandwidth we have while in combat here, it's surprising to me that more squads (or really any for that matter) haven't implimented more military like radio call procedure and use at least a small subset of standard Brevity Codes.  I do hear 'Roger' and 'Copy', 'RTB' and 'Bingo', but not much beyond that.  And I'm guessing 'Con' is maybe a game term that caught on instead of what I believe are the correct designations of 'Bogey' for unidentified aircraft, and 'Bandit' once a bogey is determined to be hostile.

I've always thought that if squads would adopt even a modest list of codes, and would teach a standardized radio call format, it would eliminate a lot of useless chatter and make squad operations much more efficent.  And certainly be more military-like and historically immersive as well.  Might training some of the squeakers not to yak so much early on.

Anyway, with all the history and military buffs, and ex-military types who play this game, I'm wonder why this isn't generally done.

Christ, I can't agree more.

I hate it when people just call out icons.... I too have the gift of sight, believe it or not.

I always make a point of calling distance, direction and closure when giving Check6s. "xxx check 6, Spit closing fast, high six" etc etc.

When calling out cons, for the love of god, call out their alt and position too.

"Jug inbound" means jackchit. "Jug inbound, 10k NW of A61", on the other hand, is very informative.

There would be less nonsense chatter on range (or perhaps more time for useless, fun chatter) if people spoke like that when calling situations.

The one that drives me nuts is on squad channel....When everyone is scattered about.

"There's a goon over town"!

Ok  which town?

Location always helps as well
