Is anyone else having trouble using the 'moving' samples? the WMV doesn't show any motion and the Quicktimes are making my browser freeze up.

I was able to get the mid size mpg to work by right clicking on the link and saving it to my desktop. I then opened it with WMP, and it worked.

The large AVI is 'uncompressed RGB'.  It should play on anything as there is no real codec.  I removed the WMV as the quality was just too poor.  The MPEG is plain ole MPEG-2.

The only problem there might be is if the data file is being treated as ASCII, that could cause some problems.

Title: Re: new water and terain
Post by: moot on February 04, 2009, 04:49:00 PM
Might be an option in gfx preferences, don't panic yet.
The video doesn't work with WMP but does with VLC, on my end.

Would be very cool if we also got some spray for planes low enough over the water :)  A formation right on the water would look great then..

Also, just looking at this, it appears to not have too much of a hit on hardware.

Interesting.
The MPEG works, but when I try to open the AVI with WMP it says 'error downloading codec'.

However... I think I've seen enough with the MPEG. Beautiful work, HTC.

Out of curiosity, were the clouds changed at all?

Now that I see we have flowing water, does that mean it now has depth to it?  ex., planes now sink, pt boat sinks if to many holes (hehehe) etc..  Possible future for subs?

Looks like you used a similar engine as the Half-life 2 development team.  Water looks and acts like it did in that game.
Title: Re: new water and terain
Post by: Skuzzy on February 04, 2009, 04:56:11 PM
The best way to view the AVI file is to save the video to your computer, right click it and select "Play" or "Play with Media Player".

As there is no real codec involved, I think trying to stream it is causing the problem.

MORAY37, the only engine we use is what is developed in house.

oakranger, I have no idea, but I would not panic either.

I'm surprised people here aren't using VLC.
Plays it just fine, should be your standard video player for anything. Don't need to download any codec packs with VLC.

Hmmm, very pretty... It played easily enough on my new
and old game machines..

The water laps sweetly on the shore, how serene...
But will the new terrain have an actual effect
on vehicles, etc?  Or, is it just superfluous eye candy?

Now that we have flowing water, will we get maps with rivers,
streams, creeks, swamps, and mud? Some things that the
real world has a'plenty..

Its pretty, and I like it... Not meaning to be a killjoy, but I like
MEAT with my meals, and tread on my tires, so to speak!

I'm hoping so!!

Perhaps there's going to be an option to turn animation off or something if it ends up destroying comp frame rates.

Many of my applications with animations have that option.

I'm guessing users will be able to scale the water effects to suit their machine.

I for one, would like to thank HTC for this. It will undoubtedly alleviate/eliminate the "plane becoming invisible against water" problems.

I'm curious as how wakes will be generated now, and if in the new terrain system if a wake will be formed or if dust will be kicked up by aircraft flying at low level.

That would be awesome :)
