Title: Get em when their new Boot Camp
Post by: DCCBOSS on February 05, 2009, 04:26:40 PM
This will help indoctrinate the new comers to the game, have them directed to the training arena on the initial log in to the game for Boot Camp Training in order to fly in the MA. This can help give them the correct information at least minimize some of the problems that come with newcomers. I know this will not fix everything but it couldm't hurt.

Just curious... Did you go to boot camp for the game? If not why should they?
Everybody finds their way in this game without having to go to boot camp.
A printable quick reference guide popping up and a messege informing you training is available in the TA when you log in as a two weeker is a good idea though.

On that cheat sheet key list it says use "\" to toggle primary. When do you ever toggle the primary weapon?

Not a bad idea. Bring them in new and mold and shape them the way you want. I'm sure you'll use them as bait at first  :rofl

Most games(even easy ones) do have a tutorial or introductory level. With this being a sim and therefore much more in depth and difficult for the average gamer I think it could benefit hugely from some kind of tutorial level showing the basics of gunnery, bombing, vehicles, capturing bases and key commands. I'm sure it could be done as an offline mission or at the very least as a film with narration. Everyone who's been playing past their 2 week trial knows about the training arena option. But I know when I first downloaded I wasn't interested in browsing the website or forums. I just wanted to jump in and get my guns on. Coming from warbirds and many other offline sims I didn't really need a basic tutorial on gunnery and the like, but I know I was asking all sorts of questions about bombing/capturing bases, and interpreting the clipboard.

The info is available. Murdr has added 3 of the 4 Flash Tutorials (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/files/files.htm) I put together, as well as films with info on different maneuvers by both Badboy and Murdr. The problem is getting the new guys to take a bit of time to check them out. Like you said, most just want to dive right in.

While I do agree with you guys have said, I was more implying that a new comer to the game would be directed by way of the intital log in procedure to the correct locations for game play info and to trainer on proper game play etiquette and flight training.

AI in the TA that fly around as target drones, matched to some air starts for whatever specific ACM.  e.g. Proper high front quarter pass at bombers, or practicing a bounce on a fighter that would do a specific evasive, which teaches the student both how to counter that evasive, and what that evasive is supposed to look like from the bouncer's POV, so that said student can do it right when they're the bouncee.
This is perfect for bots.. They do the dirty work repeatedly and flawlessly.
