Title: Q: .avi sound and Sony Vegas
Post by: 33Vortex on February 05, 2009, 07:54:38 PM
Using Sony Vegas and FRAPS I am unable to import the sound included with the .avi files together with the video. The video go into the program fine, just a matter of drag and drop. However the sound does not even appear in Sony Vegas despite there being a sound track in the .avi file.

Anyone know the answer to this and how to import the sound together with video in .avi files? It is and always has been a big problem for me when editing film.

You probably do not have the proper settings enabled on Fraps.  Make sure Record Sound is selected in the Video portion of Fraps.  Also change the recording channel to "What You Hear."

To make sure its not a Vegas problem, try playing one of the recorded Fraps files by itself.  It may be jerky (because the file is huge), but you should be able to hear the audio recorded, if it was done correctly.

Yeah, all of what you posted is tried and tested, no joy. Problem persists, FRAPS .avi files with sound lose their sound when imported to Sony Vegas.

Anyone know of a solution to this?

Check your Vegas audio settings.

Possibly add a video track and Sound track before you add your AVI file by fraps.

I'll fire up vegas and check my audio settings now.

Yeah, there's nothing odd about the audio settings. This thing puzzles me.

Do you use Vegas on the same computer you use fraps to capture?

Also try going into
Options>Preferences

And go to the tabs "General" and also the tab "Audio"
Hit the "default all" button the lower right for both tabs.  I've never done this, but it's worth a shot at setting things back to default in case something changed them or the installation didn't set them right.

I'm just trying to give you options.  I don't know the cause for your problem.

Tested importing FRAPS avi files into Vegas captured in FS9, sound worked fine. WTH!?

Checking all sorts of sound settings now and yes I'm using the same computer for capturing and editing.

Thanks for helping.

Strange.

What version of Fraps and Sony Vegas are you using?

FRAPS v2.9.8 build 7777

Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.0d build 139

try recording 15 seconds oh AH.  (your testing a small file size)

See if that works.

Something must have changed in the latest FRAPS update, or during my re-install after a hard drive failure, because importing avi sound into Vegas does work now. Tested and it works, it could be that something was not working properly in the previous install. I tried many times to get it working but eventually gave up on it. Did not bother even trying it again until now.
