Title: Aircraft Ferry Routes

Can anyone suggest links to information for both Altantic and Pacific ferry routes used during WW2?

I am putting together flight plans, in FS9 and/or FS10, for flights across to the ETO, MTO, PTO, and CBT.

Some time ago I mimicked the flight of Glacier Girl to England. Was a long flight but I enjoyed it and would like to fly the other routes that were used.

If anyone would like to tag along, send me a PM.

Don't know too many but my uncle was deployed to the Mediterranean  in 1943 and he flew from Miama to Puerto Rico.  From there he flew down through the Caribbean Island to British Guiana.  He flew along the Amazon river to Belem Brazil, from there they headed east towards Ascension Island.   After a few days there they took off again and headed towards the Ivory Cost, but didn't quite make it because they lost an engine and ended up in Liberia, once they replaced the engine they took off and headed for Dakar Africa.  From there I believe the next spot on the flight plan was Casablanca, but a sandstorm broke a fuel line and he had to make an emergency landing in Tindouf in the Sahara Desert they made repairs and gave him just enough fuel to get to Marrakech where he resupplied and made for Casablanca.  Once they got there the guns were installed on his B-25 and flew to Pompeii where he boarded a C-47 and was sent to Foggia.

     Here is a neat article about a Lend-Lease P-39 that was recently recovered
from a lake.  It describes the route taken by the aircraft from Bell in NY through
Siberia.

Very cool find there Rino. That is a pretty crazy write up on that particular P-39.

I might have JUST what you are looking for!
Some time ago I bought a stack of 4 books at a local estate auction. All of the books were about B26 bombers. In one of the books, the previous owner had jotted down notes and inserted some old photographs.

I dug them up for you and I scanned a couple of the photos, and his notes on his bombers ferry flight to England.

 Actually I did stop in Greenland. Used a field there as a waypoint and continued the flight the next day.

If you want to make it really realistic, you should add lots of random failures and stopped engines and ensure the weather is pretty grotty for most of the trip. A lot of American aircraft ended up in Ireland whether they liked to or not.

I don't know about simulating a ferry flight. But it's something I would like to do for real one day. Help deliver and aircraft over the Atlantic.
