Title: Antivirus 360
Post by: Banshee7 on February 08, 2009, 09:52:35 AM
Ok.....was viewing the web last night and clicked the wrong link....I got hit with adware and all that bullcrap.  Now, it won't let me visit some sites without buying the $50 program to "protect" my computer.  I know this is a scam, and that they are the ones that infected my computer.

Like now..at the top of every page i view it says "The page you are opening is probably contains spyware, adware, etc... Your system might be at risk, click here to protect your system with Anitvirus 360."

The "click here" was of course a link...i didn't click it.  AS you can also see...."is probably contains".....come on...thats a big hint it's a scam.

Now,,,HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS CRAP????!?!?!?!?

I had to go to another PC to get instructions on how to remove it from someone else's PC.

Once It got to where I can go to other sites, I went to trend micro's online scanner and went from there.

Also you may have a url.redir variant on there too

Yeah you've got a Vundo Trojan, I had it too, it's a pain in the bellybutton to get rid of, gl. :salute

You want Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to get rid of it, go here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe)

I'm pretty sure AntiVirus360 is just the latest permutation of AntiVirus2008/2009.

One thing to watch for: You MAY need to rename your Malwarebytes executable, the little bastard has a habit occasionally of preventing it from running otherwise. Sometimes you can also find the A/V process in the task manager and close it out to gain control of the PC long enough to nuke the sucker.

If you don't want this to happen again, there are several preventative measures which I assure you will block any attempt to infect your system again..
First, use Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/)..

Next, use Spyware Blaster....This is not a spyware/malware scanner..  It prevents spyware/malware from getting into your system in the first place..
I swear by this app as I have NEVER EVER been infected while using it..  Updates are offered about twice a month, however if you don't have the
registered version, you need to update it yourself..  http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)
Read the info on it just so you know how it works..  It's an incredible program especially being free...

Lastly, I'm not sure if you use Spybot or not...  The scanning part of Spybot is all fine and dandy like any other anti-spyware app worth its weight..
However, the beauty in Spybot is its "Immunize" feature which works similar to how Spyware Blaster works..  It PREVENTS infection..

Also, make sure to keep all your security software updated constantly...  At least once a day..  Especially anti-virus software...
They are only as good as how often they are updated.. :salute

Firefox is like Internet Explorer but faster, more secure, more customizable etc.

I've had Opera installed, I've fiddled around with it.    I still primarily use Firefox 3.

Or totally stop going to myspace completely.

Block it from access :)

I have a problem with Firefox and maybe you guys could help, a few weeks ago I had to completely wipe my hard drive & reinstall my OS, so now when I reinstalled Firefox the text on it doesn't look as good as it use too, I don't know how to really explain it but you can see a big difference in how the text looks in I.E compared to Firefox now, and before I don't remember the text looking this crappy.  So if anyone knows of why this has happened, or a way to fix it I'd appreciate it because I like using Firefox alot better then I.E, but I'd like the text too look as good as it does in I.E, if anyone needs to see it I'll post screenshots to show the difference.

I DO like when it acts like Microsoft word and underlines your mistakes in red  :aok

You might have adjusted the text size.   Ctrl + Wheel on mouse.

No, tried that and it didn't help.  It almost looks like if you compare it to I.E that all the text on I.E looks like it's in bold, and just of a better quality compared to Firefox now.

I posted about the Firefox text issue over in the Hardware & Software section and got a tip that works and fixes the text in Firefox:

To enable it right click desktop, properties, appearance, effects, use 'clear type' and tick the box in the 'use the following method to smooth edges'.

After I did this the text in Firefox looks just as good as in I.E.

Cool that did fix the text. However the glow effect still doesn't show right.

where spybot search and destroy, and AVG were only finding 2 or 3 things.......superantispyware and maleware both found over 200 things....including tracking cookies.
